April 15, 20206 yr I'm really enjoying Prepar3d v5 overall, but the VR implementation is a bit of a mess. Certainly a big backwards step from v4.5 in terms of usability. Having said that, I'm still doing all my flying in v5 VR. I thought I would post as some are having no success at all with VR. Here's my observations, and what I've found that works. Observations: 1. Head tracking causes shuddering that can make VR unusable. 2. Water is problematic - one eye gives massive artifacts when your looking at the ocean. That means I'm sticking to inland flying for now. 3. Stereo mode is non-viable, so you have to fly using single pass mode. 4. Performance is excellent. I'm easily able to get to 40 FPS on the Rift S, and sometimes to 80 FPS. Currently flying A2A GA aircraft over Orbx sceneries with good effect. Here's how to make it work on a Rift S (native 80 Hz, runs well art 40 Hz): 1. Use Steam VR mode. Oculus mode is bad, don't use it. 2. As I noted, fly inland! Water needs to be fixed. 3. Make sure your settings allow a stable 40 frames per second. 4. Select single-pass mode in the VR settings. 5. Lock the frames in P3D settings to 40 FPS. That setup works pretty well for me. Smoothness with head movements is perhaps not 100%, but it's good enough that I don't notice anything amiss. Change to Oculus mode, unlimited frames, stereo mode etc, and it's not possible to tolerate the juddering when you move your head (well it is, but I wouldn't recommend it!). The view from VR over orthoscenery (Megascenery, Orbx, Homebrew) is beautiful in DX12. I'm having a lot of fun in VR, but I will await LM's fixes of these issues with interest. On a final note, Truesky isn't compatible (as I'm sure any VR flier has already worked out), which is a shame - I look forward to my first VR flight through those clouds! Please share any tips and observations that you have discovered, and if you're speaking to anyone from LM ask them to get to work on fixing these issues. 🙂 Cheers, Rob Oz Sim Rig: MSI RTX3090 Suprim, an old, partly-melted Intel 9900K @ 5GHz+, Honeycomb Alpha, Thrustmaster TPR Rudder, Warthog HOTAS, Reverb G2, Prosim 737 cockpit. April 15, 20206 yr Rob - Thanks for posting ! I just got the download to finish, I will install it and report back later. I am using Rift CV1. I am seeing many posts on the LM forum regarding this. It reminds me of when they first released 4.5 - VR was unusable, but they patched it right away....so, hopefully they'll fix this one quickly. Appreciate the tips you provided. rgds, JB 9800x3d, ASUS TUF x870, 64GB G.Skill DDR5, MSI Ventus 4080, HP Reverb G2 VR, FlyVirtual.net, Private Pilot SEL rating, subLogic FlightSim 1983 & every release since
April 15, 20206 yr I hope they fix this mode soon, I fly only in VR so Im waiting for more positive feedback. Id like to switch to v5 but till the first SP Im stay with 4.5 which is still good for me in VR.
