  1. Are you absolutely bent on running VR wireless / streaming ? Think about the amount of data you're trying to stream smoothly. I realize some do it successfully, but I subscribe to a good old DP (or the right USB-C for the quest) to shovel all that data to the headset. Cable it up and go fly. best,
  2. The sim is not there. How can you judge scenery quality / stability with the current state of 'beta' from Asobo ? Give it time.
  3. When you're trying to get something as complex as wireless VR and all its variables to work smoothly, I would suggest avoiding beta software such as FS2024. Some will disagree, but I've been doing this VR thing long enough to know... there's just too many things to adjust / tweak without having the added complexity and uncertainty of Asobos beta product. It isn't ready for primetime, period. Suggest you fire up 2020 for now and at least start with a known stable base. Then you can tweak things like channel widths, etc with some level of confidence. Your system is more than capable of handling the task. cheers,
  4. Left hand on yoke, w. buttons programmed to pitch trim, flaps, gear. Right hand - throttle, prop, mix, spoiler - depends on the plane. Switch right hand to trackball (SOO much easier than a mouse ) to turn knobs, press buttons, adjust autopilot settings etc). Feet on the rudder pedals. Goal is to eliminate the keyboard entirely, but of course that is nearly impossible. 🙂 cheers,
  5. If that works and gets you to 23H2, please report back if you dont mind. I'd like to get to that release but I am reading that MS has removed all of those prior versions except 24H2.
  6. Have you tried the freebie app known as InControl ? One button suppression of Microsoft's updates. https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/incontrol.html#google_vignette I highly recommend this solution if you don't want Windows to auto-update. Works like a charm.
  7. This is indeed great news - thanks for sharing. Although, I never had a problem stopping Win11 updates before the dreaded 24H2. It's locked at 22something and my Reverb's work just fine, as does Windows11. No need for Microsoft to intervene at all.
  8. What MoBo do you 9800x3D guys use / recommend? I just ordered the CPU & finally moving away from intel. Building the rig next week. ASus x870? Gigabyte Aorus? Thx,
  9. How? Does ‘24 recognize those assets on a ‘20 premium installation ? I’m curious. Thx!
  10. Has the VR pointer issue been fixed ? If not, when?
  11. I fly sims to stay current (not certified, just my own procedures). I use VR and found Xplane 12 to be lacking in VR support. And the graphics are very dated. For now, MSFS20 is the best option.
  12. The point of the ‘anger’ is missed. It’s not about the absolute price, or how good PMDG’s products are, or their operating costs….it’s about the lack of a simple gesture of customer loyalty. When one buys nearly everything they’ve produced since the the days of Prepar3d v1, and now having paid full price for both 773 and 77F in MSFS, the lack of an ‘upgrade/discount’ for the 772 creates frustration (and apparently anger, for some). Personally, I’m disappointed and simply choose not to pay another $77 for the 772. I just wouldn’t feel good about the purchase, regardless of what Kok is saying about new wings & engine options.
  13. It’s by far the most annoying, un-user friendly UI of any add on I’ve ever used. But, it’s the only way to filter / adjust overexposed skys while in VR, with changes on the fly.
  14. Does that (external view zooming) also function in VR ? TIA,
  15. Try REX Atmos to manage the haze, colors & washout of the sim. Sorry I’m still on 2020 so maybe this is moot for ‘24 but I’m holding out. Yes, the UI sucks on Atmos, but it’s the only tool I’ve tried that allows lighting, atmosphere & color tweaks in VR with changes appearing on the fly. Much improved visuals.
  16. They spent 4 years ‘developing’ the product. The Sr. Program Mgr jumped ship. In 2 months, there’ll be another A330 as a standard offering the new sim. Panic release now or forever hold & watch an enormous development effort go down the toilet. Lose-lose scenario.
  17. I signed up for the free trial. Charts look fine, but the ‘planner’ is not working at all. Tried a couple different departure / dest combos KORD-KJFK & EBBR-EIDW….& neither worked. Sent a note to support, no response as of yet > 24hrs. Not a good experience so far.
  18. PLEASE keep it going ! We definitely need this project alive & well. Thank you!
  19. I do indeed see a lot process windows open while resample executes, but on mine they seem to auto-close upon completion. Maybe it's a Windows process termination setting ? Or incorrect resample.exe setting ? Are you using py to start Ortho or his prebuilt binary ? in other words, I have not yet experienced them getting stuck or losing focus and I am using the binary. However, I limit the number of tiles at any one time to say 3 or 4. Even with the few number of tiles, resample.exe will spawn a boat load of process windows. For a few moments, I thought the machine was stuck in a loop.... Yes, I do have one separate drive / directory dedicated to tiles, but not sure about merging 'all .bgls' into a massive directory. I would rather keep it in smaller chunks for better manageability. I give each tile a meaningful name (Dublin, Munich, InnsBrck) so that I can determine where it should sit in library given that I have a lot of Orbx stuff (for now) that has to co-exist. If a given tile doesn't behave or look right, I will delete it and move on. There is a lot of experimenting going on, but I thing this is the start of great scenery building for the future. The tile +47-011, when paired with Orbx's LOWI airport, looks absolutely fantastic. The trains running around the 'real' tracks is a very, very cool thing. This weekend, I did indeed end up with P3d (4.3) getting stuck at the opening splash screen after I exited from a flight from within an Ortho area. Had to rebuild scenery.cfg and 'delete generated files' (you may know the drill if you use P3D v4) in order to regain control. Not a big deal and all of the Orbx stuff comes right back upon one "verify files" command at FTXCentral - nice touch. So, to answer your specific question, I have not yet built that much Ortho. I am up to about 10 tiles or so at varying ZL's to try and determine the optimum, acceptable visuals given the type of flying I want to do. I did ZL16 for an international airport, and ZL14 for the 'surrounding' 8 tiles in the area - and it looks just fine from 10,000 ft on approach- and much, much smaller datasets. But I don't trust the stability of the software (including P3D v4.3 in general) to really invest that much time and effort - things will eventually overload or crash and suddenly you're rebuilding again. Too easy to break stuff with a lot of install and de-installs. Terrain and or scenery .cfg will get screwed up. Then you need to know how to quickly rebuild and regain control, lest ye suffer from FSWS (Flight Sim Withdrawal Syndrome). cheers :-)
  20. Working great now (after a few hours of hacking files ; see below) and THANKS ! this is fantastic. Been waiting for this capability for some time now....GREAT. Since I had already installed Oscar's 1.30 for XP11 and therefore Python 3.6.5, I didn't want to change the Python version nor go through the re-install. This ESP version didn't seem to like Py ver 3.6.5. on this (Win 10 x64) machine for some reason. So, I opted for your prebuilt .exe file. I did the edit to the .cfg (to indicate the proper path for the resample tool) but it didn't 'take hold'. In other words, the tile built successfully but not the bgl conversion process. Q: does the binary read the .cfg file before execution? {FIX: since I happen to have an "F:" drive on this machine, I simply created a directory there to match the one in your original .cfg and pasted resample there, with success. Works fine now } Also, each instance of execution I get the error "ERROR: Providers/O4_Custom_URL.py contains invalid code. The corresponding providers won't probably work" as reported by others, but that does not (yet) impede progress. Thanks for a great idea and great effort. JB
