April 23, 20206 yr Hi I am new to P4AO, but am familiar with the basic principle of scenery layering with scenery.cfg and add-on.xml files. Within my P3Dv4 installation, if I use P4AO to reorder any scenery within the scenery.cfg (light green) then the new order is immediately reflected in the scenery.cfg file, but the order of files in the add-ons.cfgs (dark green) do not change or match that shown in P4AO. Is there something that I might be misunderstanding with the way that add-ons work or are displayed in P4AO? Any help would be appreciated. Luke Luke Spencer

Luke Hello Luke, If "Auto-Layer" is on, then P4AO will apply layer tags to all scenery components, no matter if they are in the scenery.cfg or an add-on.xml. So the sequence of the packages in the add-ons.cfg files becomes irrelevant. The package sequence is only relevant for scenery if you are not using layers (Auto-Layer off). And then the sequence of the scenery components within a package is equally important. When you have 20 sceneries in a package (= in one and the same add-on.xml), they must trade places when you want them arranged differently. And that layering does not work across packages that easily. P4AO will know about that and act accordingly, should you decide to turn auto-layer off. For all other addon components in packages, the sequence in the add-ons.cfg files (there are two of them) is important, if the components are supposed to override each other. Otherwise it doesn't matter at all. In fact, you should never edit the add-ons.cfg files manually. One is 100% managed by the sim, the other should only be accessed using the CLI. P4AO is stateless, it will always read the entire sim configuration when you start it and it will always show you the sequence of the scenery, the other addons, and the packages they both are in, the same way as the simulator sees it.
