June 28, 20205 yr Hi Everyone. I wonder if you could clear up a little confusion on my part? I have my sim texture res at at 2048, does that set the cockpit textures to 2048 as well? Or is there a seperate config setting to maintain 4096 cockpit textures with sim textures at 2048? Thanks Stu i7 12700K , DDR4 64GB RAM @3600MHz, Asus Z690-Plus D4 MB, Gainward 4090 RTX Graphics, 850W Corsair PSU, Kraken AIO watercooler, Nvme 1TB ssd, 1TB ssd, 500GB ssd.
June 28, 20205 yr It depends on the aircraft. For example, if you load up the default F-22 and set textures to 1024, you'll note that everything inside the cockpit is basically unreadable, and the external textures suffer as well. But something like the Mad Dog X uses 4k VC textures that aren't impacted by the setting. I know there's an explanation for it somewhere (something having to do with mip mapping applied by the texture artist).
June 28, 20205 yr Author I wonder if that's the same for PMDG 747. Thanks for your answer Stu i7 12700K , DDR4 64GB RAM @3600MHz, Asus Z690-Plus D4 MB, Gainward 4090 RTX Graphics, 850W Corsair PSU, Kraken AIO watercooler, Nvme 1TB ssd, 1TB ssd, 500GB ssd.
June 28, 20205 yr You have to set the VC resolution in the prepar3d.cfg file. Even if you set 2048 textures in the ui it won’t change the VC resolution. June 28, 20205 yr Author Thanks for that nugget of info. I'll check now Stu i7 12700K , DDR4 64GB RAM @3600MHz, Asus Z690-Plus D4 MB, Gainward 4090 RTX Graphics, 850W Corsair PSU, Kraken AIO watercooler, Nvme 1TB ssd, 1TB ssd, 500GB ssd.
June 28, 20205 yr Author VC res is set at 4096 in the config file. Under [DISPLAY] TextureMaxLoad =3 which I presume is 2048? Stu i7 12700K , DDR4 64GB RAM @3600MHz, Asus Z690-Plus D4 MB, Gainward 4090 RTX Graphics, 850W Corsair PSU, Kraken AIO watercooler, Nvme 1TB ssd, 1TB ssd, 500GB ssd.
June 28, 20205 yr If you edit 4096 to 2048. That will do it, just bear in mind if you change the resolution setting in the ui again, it will set vc back to 4096 again. You have to keep an eye on it. 😎 AMD Ryzen 5900X - Asus Crosshair VI Hero - G.Skill 32GB (2x16GB) 3000 C14 DDR4 @ 3600 14-14-15-14-28-42 AMD Red Devil Radeon 6900XT 2700/2112 1125mv - 3 x Iiyama G-Master GB2888UHSU 4k @ 11560x2160 Saitek X-55 Rhino - Track IR5 - Obutto Sim Cockpit + Triple Monitor Stand - Fancy some Techno? https://www.mixcloud.com/dj_bully/
June 28, 20205 yr TextureMaxLoad is a different setting, I have mine set to 15 along with Texture_bandwidth_multi=90 seems to work well, stops the black textures appearing. June 28, 20205 yr Guess we can turn up texture resolution to 4096 without causing ctd? With hf2? mike
June 28, 20205 yr Author I originally had my texture res set to 4096 in sim. As I have a 1080 GTX 8GB, I found that is was precariously close to my 6.7GB limit with EA active. Not an issue if I don't use EA but I am just fiddling about to find my ideal settings. 4096 without EA is fine with pretty high settings and the PMDG 747. I haven't introduced UTLive yet, though. I need a comfortable overhead for that when it is released. My main concern is being able to maintain 4096 textures in the VC while i have 2048 in the sim. I have an 11gb and vram is quite high. i would rather not use EA ,but envshade just ain’t cutting it. hoping to get tomatoshade R&D preset for v5 and use asca again. And crank up to 4096 textures. So I can kick EA to the curb for now. mike
