October 21, 200619 yr Hi all.FPS can be dramatically helped by renaming or deleting the default.xml file... but the cityscapes become a bit barren as many trees are destroyed in the process. The default.xml file in the Autogen folder can be altered to remove all random buildings, poles and signs, but still leave the trees:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...g_id=1222&page=Your FPS will improve, and you'll like the city again.Dick

October 21, 200619 yr If you have read carefully I have a default.xml edited with the rural stuff around the airports (MS did this also around runways)But there are quit a few of us that like to have trees around the airport...The file and the link you posted doesn't do that ;-)The revelance is here with the mentioned texture lines (FSX.cfg lines) + settings and the file I mentioned you have almost no impact on FPS but a lot of trees just around the airport...This is one of the many tweaks I have already done...- O there are many more classes involved per region in combination with the veg_ objects ;-) wich are bound to the rural stuff...Which happen to lay around the airports to...- renaming the default.xml isn't a tweak just cutout features...but imagine you want to have all the nice stuff but still great frame rates ;-)The problem with default.xml file and many systems are the 3d objects like streetlighst/telephone poles/ gas stations/ fast food/ town houses etc... So if not of interrest for you just skip it :-lolJust one to add for many of our fellow simmers to choose from...Have fun,Boy that I still have to explain it pffff :-erksAndr André
October 21, 200619 yr Hey guys, no need to fight over who has the best default.xml mod. There are 1,000 different ways of changing that file, none is better than the other, just different. I've also got two versions at my website :).Do you mind if I also include your versions at my website? Andre, please email to me at [email protected] if that's ok with you. Thanks
October 21, 200619 yr Well -I renamed default.xml to default.bak. At the more rural airports, my FPS did shoot up. But, try this at KSEA.Sitting at KSEA with most everything maxed (sliders to the right), I only got about a 1-2 FPS increase. The detailed airports/cities are still a drain on FPS.In the more rural areas, I can get 25 FPS on average. Sometimes, I've seen it as high as the high 30/low 40 FPS values. So, I can get very good results - but, it depends on where I fly.So, my "proving ground" in KSEA - because of it's combination of high detailed large airport, city (near the airport), water, etc. At KSEA, on takeoff roll, I get about 10 FPS. As soon as I'm over the runway, looking to the West, I get about 17 FPS, and North of the airport, I get about 20 FPS. Then, closer to downtown, I get dips.JerryG

GPU with 128 or 256 or 512 mb is ahuge difference in FSX...Andr André
