Blurries

Featured Replies

FSX has been performing fairly well considering my 2 year old sytem, however, today I'm getting a strange problem all of a sudden. What happens is that the scenery gets all blurry plus my vc panel and airplane outside view. The guages remain clear as well as the entire 2D panel, however. I went from full screen to a window screen and it cleared up for awhile but then did it in that mode also. This doesn't happen gradually but just snaps right to blurry. I have adjusted the sliders up and down (autogen always off) but nothing seems to make a difference. My system is Athlon 64 3000; Radeon ATI 9800 Pro; 1 Gig of RAM.This has started after flying FSX for almost a week.Any ideas?Jim

Jim, I had an almost identical setup (until 2 days ago when I purchased a GeForce 7600 GSOC w/512MB memory). I'll bet the memory in your ATI 9800 is only 128 MB. If so I suggest you cut back the "Global Texture Resolution" (the slider on the graphics tab). It makes the building and aircraft textures blurry but will free up some video memory to allow your ground textures to stay crisp (moving back to 2 meter resolution should help also). Anyway, give it a try. I have MemStatus and notice I constantly run over 148 Megs of video memory on my new card. Best of luck.

I have seen so many people with that exact same card reporting similar problems. I myself had that very same card and very same problem until I replaced it with a 512mb X1600 Pro.The problem, to put it quite simply, is that 128mb isn't enough video memory for this game. The highest level mip maps can't even fit on the card, so you automatically downgrade to blurrier textures.I'm afraid you will need to consider a graphics card upgrade if you wish to resolve it.

Dunno...I'm using the 9800pro 128 also, and a P4 at about 3.15 ghz.. 1 gig ram..I had that problem when I first started running it, but after doing some tweaks, I rarely get that anymore. For me, setting the AGP aperature to a high numberhelped greatly. Cured most of it. The only time I getit now is when I run things at full right sliders, and the video just can't keep up. I run out of vid memory, and it starts slowing down, getting the blurries, etc.As long as I stay "normal" or less on the autogen, I'vehad no problems. I run the land texture resolution at "max".Also...With the 9800, you can select the quality of direct3d in the display settings. "mipmap and texture quality". If thesetting is on low, IE: "max performance", the quality willbe down quite a bit compared to the next three notches. I've been running mine on "quality" which is the 2nd from the highest. I like a sharp panel image. I do keep the frillsat low levels to help. IE: AI, car traffic, etc, I think I have at the default 15%. Anyway, I think a larger ram card is a good idea, but I'vegotten my 9800pro 128 card to work ok, so it's possible to do.I can fly for hours and not get the blurries. BTW.. I also increased the texture bandwidth mult in the cfg.I think that might have helped a bit also.MK

while his vram may not be enough he stated that this just started...which really confuses me.Hey Jim, have you flown for more than a few minutes those last times? Does this happen after flying for a longer time?

My later flights haven't been any longer than the earlier ones I was flying. Since I installed FSX I've mostly just flying around to check out the sim. No long flights.Don't know why it started all of a sudden after about a week. Maybe the video card is just getting tired and I forsee a new one in my future.Since I don't have the latest and greatest system I have had my sliders at midrange or lower and performance has been as well or better than expected. The thing that really confuses me is that the guages themselves remain sharp and clear. It's just everything on the panel that goes blurry along with the scenery.Anyhow, I'll try to sweet talk momma to see if I can buy a video card. Any recommendations on which card to get? Thanks,Jim
