October 23, 200619 yr After installation and adding tweaks (http://www.fox-fam.com/wordpress/?page_id=41)Trees/building roofs/rnwy/clouds/water reduction, and the tweaks for the CFG file, were the only tweaks I did, with ok results.Enjoyed it for over 20 hours spread out thru 2 days with no probs, thought I would try ATC.First time trying ATC, locked up hard right after clicking what role ya want and advancing to next screen, ending task only way out, tried again, the same... ...had to stop gaming, would try next time gaming.Next morning, I try again, locked up hard same place, ended task, rebooted......clicked on FSX shortcut to launch, after activity light flashes for about 15-20 sec on my tower, act. light just stops, looking at task mang shows program not responding.Had "ALL" folders, and CFG file backed up, replaced them carefully, to no avail. Tried repair in the add and remove programs/FSX, no go.I was able to fly online as pilot with no probs for maybe 5 of those hours, with no probs.I did notice Gamespy, while disconnecting and loggin in, acting very unstable, ive never really been fond of gamespy.Had 2 or 3 lock ups while online flying also, but I could reboot and get back in.Is it true we can only install/uninstall FSX 2x's?REALLY?......REALLLY?.....REALLLLY? (you see that South Park episode?..LOL) What am I missing?Thnx...:)Dell Dimension4700 P4 3.0ghz/2GB ram @400mhz {wanting the 533mhz, soon}/256MB Geforce 6800/IE+FirefoxDrivers up to date, very, very clean system...McAfee virus/privacy protect/firewall/popup blocker installed, added all the allow areas (also in win firewall), and enjoyed that 20 hours of gaming with McAfee/win firewall running, barely taking resources, no noticable dif on or off in FSX.Still prog not responding while tryin to launch FSX, with McAfee/win off or on.I do not have FS9. EDITED: I "DID" activate FSX with no probs online. If we really can only install/reinstall FSX 2X's, and I have to reinstall, my next step is a call to support (like that will help)My next step is returning (prob too late I bet...:(..) it untill we can "OWN" the program and reinstall as many times thats needed, Right Bill?
October 23, 200619 yr try pulling your logbook.bin file out. Then start FSX, should start up just fine.
October 23, 200619 yr Hmm I wonder if this is the same as my problem. Here is what I posted earlier.I cant get the atc controller option to work. Every time I choose this option whether it's hosting or joining an existing session, I get as far as the loading scenery objects bar and the sim freezes. Checking task manager at that point reveals that FSX is not responding and I have to select end program to get my 'puter back. Any ideas where I can start looking for the cure? I should say it works ok If I choose to fly instead. My specs are intel p4 prescott HT 2.8 cpu, 1gig ddr ram, radeon 1650 512 mg. graphics, and soundblaster audigy.I forgoet to mention I had done those tweaks also. If it turns out one of the tweaks is causing the problem we need to know about it. Can anyone else who has made these changes please check their multiplayer atc option? What will removing the logbook bin. do?
October 23, 200619 yr FSX needs to be added to your firewall as `safe` Start - Control Panel - Windows Firewall - Exceptions - Add Program - then point it to the FSX.exeOne reason why SP2 is specified as necessary, you have `live` access to the internet.Allcott
October 23, 200619 yr Its not a firewall issue as I can already connect if I choose to fly. Its only when I try to choose ATC that it freezes.
October 23, 200619 yr >try pulling your logbook.bin file out. Then start FSX, should>start up just fine. This worked for me at the weekend. Is it a known issue?
October 23, 200619 yr Pulling/deleting the logbook.bin file did it, thnx a bunch. Was able to get online with ATC in FSX no problem.
October 23, 200619 yr >FSX needs to be added to your firewall as `safe` >Start - Control Panel - Windows Firewall - Exceptions - Add>Program - then point it to the FSX.exe>>One reason why SP2 is specified as necessary, you have `live`>access to the internet.>>>>Allcott>> Peopla had "live access to the internet" with SP1. I believe theONLY reason SP2 was "required" was that it's just another way for MS to keep their hooks into the software you have running on yoursystem. Try downloading the latest DX9.0c patch....in order to get it you have to first download a little MS exe file that "checks your system and then, if everything is OK...whatever THAT means...it will issue you a security code that you then have to enter backon the DX9.0c download site to get the installer downloaded. It seems, with all the talk going around about the anticipatedVista activation process, that MS is becoming more and moreinvasive when it comes to your computer and the software youare running. It was bad enough when many MS sites would not allowaccess from a Netscape or Firefox browser, but this idea of "I'mgoing to look at your system and only then will I allow you todownload" concept just flat $^&&& me off! Paul ... the above are MY opinions.
October 24, 200619 yr Ok, I have My ATC option back. Here is how I did it. Before I had implemented any of the tweaks on this board, I had backed up my entire FSX folder. I simply renamed my tweaked FSX folder and replaced it with my backed up folder and this cured the problem. I still have the config tweaks in so I know its not them that caused the problem. This leaves us with the texture tweaks as these were the only other tweaks I made. Can anyone who has made the texture tweaks please check and see if their atc option is still working? If it is one of the texture tweaks that is causing this we will need to try and identify it. It may that something in my set up just got corrupted and so its therefore nothing to do with these tweaks but on the other hand we wont know till others test their setups. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
