FSX turned itself into a useless ..$^%#

Featured Replies

Last evening after doing some more "searching for acceptable frame rates"tweaks I settled on some settings that I decided to go with for awhile.Exited FSX and fired up FS9 so that I could use it to create some thumbsfor use in the 3 FS9 aircraft that I had already moved to FSX, L-049AConnie, L-188 and HS748. Took screenshots in FS9, used PSP to crop/reducethem to 256 X xxx jpgs and then put them into the texture folders of thoseaircraft in FSX. Fired up FSX and the new thumbs appeared in the aircraft selection screen just fine, however the preview sceen below it was black!I selected an aircraft anyhow...no preview appeared...hit "Fly" andthe 2D cockpit appeared ( after, of course, the looooong load delay! )but the outside view was black...and wasn't being refreshed. Any pop-uppanel window that was opened, then closed left an image of itself behind.I deleted fsx.CFG and Camera.CFG and FSX created new ones when I restartedit but the problem persists. I of course re-booted in the process.I have also removed the thumbs I added, still no change.FS9 is still wotking just fine as are all the rest of my apps. It's just FSX that has self-destructed.I've even copied all the files from the "program filesMicroSoft GamesFlight Simulator X" folder of the installation DVD back to the FSXfolder, again with no luck.I am reluctant to do an uninstall/reinstall since I have spentmany hows adding the various texture tweaks, etc and do NOT wishto have to go through that again. And I certainly am NOT goingto reload drivers, etc, since FS9 "ain't broke" and I'm not goingto screw around and possibly PORK things there. So, whatever it is in FSX that renders the preview screen as wellas the rest of the world outside of the 2D artwork seems to havebroken. I suspect this is part of MS's new "camera scheme"...I don't really expect to get a solution but am posting anyhow justin case someone else has had this problem. For now, FSX is justtaking up space...a LOT of space...on my system and is totally useless! Paul

Paul what tweaks have you used? Did you do any sharder tweaks?

>Paul what tweaks have you used? Did you do any sharder>tweaks? I did have the shader twaeks in the fsx.CFG file but removed them as part of my troubleshooting:Shader20Plus=0UseShaders=0 Also, renaming fsx.CFG and letting FSX build a new one effectively removed those tweaks along with the other CFG tweaks, to no avail. I have a ATI Radeon AIW 9600 Pro card. Hadn't changed anything with the cards setup before this problem occured. I've done the "texture re-size" tweaks...actually I merely downloaded and installed the water, clouds, trees, taxiways reduced textures. Everything was working fine with that configuration. It was only after I created the thumbs for the add-on aircraft and fired up FSX again did the problem surface, which seems very strange. Paul

Paul, As a last resort have you tried System Restore to an earlier time? Craig
