Assistance required to configure Warthog Hotas throttle

Featured Replies

I have purchased the Warthog Hortas throttles and joystick, but have a mental block when it comes to reading script for FSUIPC and Target to map certain items!

I have been through all the forums and written to Thrustmaster, too, but there are many here who have done what I need and I really do need to have this spelt out to me: The basic mapping I have been able to do, but I would like assistance with configuring the throttles for 3 and 4 engine aircraft and with the reverse thruster and afterburner? I have turned the afterburner module upsidedown as per the manual.

I have been in flightsim for 15 years, but my wife says it's my age and I do now to begin to forget things!!

If some kind person can really help me here, with their time and effort, it will be really appreciated - especially as I have ordered the premium deluxe boxed version of MFS to use it with.

Thank you all in advance.

Hello Martin,

I'm replying following your private post to me. The Hortas appears to have two throttle axes. There is an option in FSUIPC to assign engines 1 and 2 to one axis and 3 and 4 to the other axis. This allows users who only have two throttle axes to control four engined aircraft.

In FSUIPC go to the Joystick Calibration tab and use the arrow key to go to page 3 of 11. In the lower right section you will see a tick box where it says Map 1>12, 2>34.

That will allow you to map the engines to your throttle levers. So the left throttle will control engines 1 and 2 and the right will control 3 and 4.

Regarding reverse thrust that is tricker but on the same page in the upper left there is a tick box for No reverse zone. I have it unticked because I want to use the full range of the throttle for power. If you leave it unchecked part of the throttle range will become reverse thrust. I haven't used it so you may need to experiment to find the point where forward thrust becomes idle thrust and then with further rearward movement engages reverse thrust.

Regarding afterburners they are usually controlled by a switch. In FS Labs Concorde SHIFT+F4 will arm all four prior to the throttles being advanced for take-off and they kick in automatically. Once airborne they can be engaged with CTRL+F4. Once will engage the inner pair. Press again and the outer pair are engaged. You will need a button for that rather than a switch.

Hope that helps.

Hello Ray, thank you for responding! The Hortas  has, for reverse thrust, a bar that you have to lift the throttles over to go from idle to off - it is here that the reverse thrust has to be set and which I do not know how to set it! Can FSUIPC handle this physical action?

Martin, does FSUIPC see that action in Joystick Assignments? If it does then it should be programmable. If it doesn’t check the Buttons tab and see if it’s recognised there. It might be an on/off action so a button assignment seems the more likely.

When you lift the throttle over the bar into reverse, or off, whilst looking at the controller properties (Control panel > devices and printers > right click in the throttle, select game controller settings) you'll see the button 29 (left throttle) and button 30 ( right throttle) will light up. In FSX i use button 30 as throttle (decrease quickly) in the controls menu and this activates reverse thrust on anything i fly.

thats all, no FSUIPC or target was needed.

@MaDDogz, the reason he’s using FSUIPC is because it allows him to assign two engines to a single throttle axis. I’m pretty sure that isn’t possible in FSX direct.

🙃 Ray this seems to be working for four engines and reverse thrust! No buttons only correct positioning of throttles and going over the bar. Now will try with three engines and helos. Will let you know how I get on.

Thank You for this assistance,

Martin

Tested three engine and helicopters, working great guns! Will look at other configurations tomorrow🙂
