August 17, 20205 yr Another question please. I7 8700k running on an Asus ROG Hero board, 32Gb RAM, liquid cooled. Asus AI suite has the CPU oc’d 32%. While running P3Dv4.5 my CPU usage fluctuates between 60-80%, averaging around 60-70%. The temperature varies between 62-80c averaging in the 62-75 range. My frames are locked at 32 and remain consistent on the flight deck at 29-32 even at add on airports with AIG traffic. I realize this is good. But does anyone know if this is too much stress for the CPU running for 4+ hour flights - should I back the oc settings down a bit? Would it better to ask on an Asus board where they aren’t as familiar with P3D. Thanks for your help on my various questions. Edited August 17, 20205 yr by Chuck Dreier
August 17, 20205 yr I think 100c is the throttle back point for the 8700k at which point the CPU will look to ease back to protect itself from damage. Obviously it's better to not come close to that and I think Intel recommend to keep below 85c if possible. As you're averaging well below that and even your max doesn't hit 85c there shouldn't really be any issue running those temps for extended flights. What kind of temps do you hit when you try to fully stress the CPU though?
August 18, 20205 yr Author Thanks for your reply. Honestly, I’m not sure about the max temp. AI Suite stress tested it by running various voltages, etc., before shutting down. The 35% overclock takes it to 4900-5000 so I’m very happy with that number. Edited August 18, 20205 yr by Chuck Dreier
