August 20, 20205 yr I've posted this on the MSFS forum, but I haven't been able to get any solution. I’ve never really used the Garmin 1000 as a GPS device. I used the default GPS in P3d and FSX and I enjoyed using them. Not sophisticated? Right, but I enjoyed using the GPS for a “direct to” flight. Some times a flight of about 100 miles or so doesn't require a bunch of waypoints, etc. I have a question that I hope someone helps me with on the 1000. I selected various planes in MSFS with the Garmin 1000 and I can't seem to get the device to accept "Activate" when I'm given the choice of the runway I selected. I put the Garmin in GPS mode and tried a short flight in the Cirrus from KABE to KIPT. Using the AP, the route was established. However, when I got to about 30 miles from KIPT, I activated the Procedures button…then the Select Approach…then ENTER…then Select Runway (runway 27)…THEN it gives me the Load? or Activate? choice. HERE’S WHERE I’M STUCK. I cannot get beyond this point to select my runway so that I can set up an ILS. Neither the LOAD nor the ACTIVATE blink so that I could choose one or the other. They just sit there and I can't figure out how to get them to blink so that I can hit ENTER! I would appreciate an answer to this. It’s probably simple and right in front of my face, but since I’ve not used this device before, I’m not able to move on this. I’m sure if I do get this done, I’m going to have to figure out how to move from GPS to the Localizer. In P3d, I just moved from GPS to NAV and intercepted the localizer. I’ve tried finding a video on YouTube for this but have been unsuccessful. Any flying tips for the Garmin would be much appreciated. Stan
August 20, 20205 yr Cannot check in the SIM for MSFS G1000 exact implementation, but on other sims usually you have to "press" le lower knob to activate the cursor and then scroll through the available options (LOAD/ACTIVATE) with the rotary action of that same knob. Marco Manieri Perugia - Italy
August 20, 20205 yr Stan, I'll have to look specifically how to work around this when I'm able to fire up the sim later. It can be done, but it is certainly not the way the real thing behaves. All of the GPS units are kind of a mess right now. Chris

Getting the Activate choice to blink so it can be chosen in the GPS mode. When you go to procedures and select the one (runway) you want, select enter. Then the twist button bottom right has multi function. Move to the tip so it says toggle selection. Click and the ILS approach chosen should flash. Then move the mouse to the edge of the twist button and use it to roll the flashing light down to highlight load or activate. . This was sorted out by OneFang666 on the MSFS forum Stan

August 20, 20205 yr But it doesn't seem to work on a Direct - Course Edited August 20, 20205 yr by FPStewy Ryzen 5 5600X - Noctua U12A, 32Gb Vengence, Sapphire Pulse 5700xt, WD Black SN750 NVMe SSD
August 21, 20205 yr Ok after spending some time with it, I think I understand it better now. You can get the PROC if you have a flight plan, but not if you do a "Direct course to" from within the plane. Here's where it's interesting, if you start the sim with a G1000 with no FP you can create one with the FPL, if the arrival airport has procedures you will see it with the approach, once it's created you can select the PROC/Approach. You cannot see the different approaches until you "load" the approach so it would help if you have either charts or LNM for ex. to see the approach you want instead of trying all the approaches in the G1000. To see the approach in the G1000 you can click on the click on the RANGE to toggle the map pointer and use the joystick to move the mouse to see your approach. So there, learning something everyday.
