Tips for settings views (and how I did it)

Featured Replies

jcboliveira wrote a great tip on getting the right views into the cfg's a bit more easier in the FSDevelopers wiki:http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?...e_cameras_viewsHats of to him for this clever tip!I just gave it a try and got pretty nice results. To make things even easier I edited existing views instead of adding new ones, so I didn't have to come up with new GUID's. I worked on the Baron's Aircraft.cfg, my favorite plane at the moment (with the G1000). (Be sure to read the wiki first or you won't know how I actually changed the views, or better said, got the right settings for the cfg's. It's dead easy!)First of all I changed the Right Seat-view (the one you see when pressing A once) into a panned down view on the PFD, with just enough of the outside in view to make it easy to keep an eye on both. After that I changed the Radio Stack-view (the one you see when pressing A once again) into a panned down and zoomed in view of the MFD. At last I changed the Engine Controls view (the one you see when pressing A for the third time) into a Passenger's seat view in the back. I disabled the last view (Switches) by putting // in front of every line of that part. BTW I also (of course) changed the titles of the view accordingly. In the end I changed both SnapPbhAdjust = None and PanPbhAdjust = None to Swivel so I can pan around in all three views (which you can't by default in the Baron). When you keep on pressing the A key you'll end up with the 2D cockpit. I don't like that at all. So... I also disabled the Cockpit View (the original CameraDefenition.001 in the Cameras.cfg) by putting // in front of every line of that part and (of course) renumbering all other Definitions. This resulted in the following:Standard view at startup is VCPressing A once = PFDPressing A again = MFDPressing A again = Passenenger's SeatPressing A again = VC again! You can also of course cycle the other way around. All in all a lot less to cycle through! But you can go even further! After doing all this (and being quit happy with it) I went even further: since I never ever use the F10 and F11 shortcuts (2D cockpit and Fixed Spot: I do use F12, the Top-Down view, quit often and F9 to get back to the VC) I cut (!) and pasted HotKeySelect=2 and HotKeySelect=3 from Cameras.cfg to the Baron's Aircraft.cfg, under the PFD view and the MFD view. So now when I press F10 I get the panned down PFD view and when I press F11 I get the zoomed MFD! F9 brings me back to the VC. (You can paste those hotkeys in any aircraft.cfg you want after that to set your favorite views under F10 and F11. Works for F9 and F12 too, of course, but I like the defaults of those two). That's how things are now. Later tonight I will change the order of my views in the Aircraft.cfg so that pressing A once will give me the Passenger's View. The PFD and MFD will follow after that but only because that way I can still get those view with F10 and F11.So... in the end I do not need to cycle at all anymore:Standard view = VCPressing A once = Passenger's view(Shift-A to get back to VC)F10 = PFDF11 = MFD(F9 to get back to VC)I'm a happy man. :)P.S. Forgot to tell that I do not need other views (levers, lights) because I use the popup for them (Shift-6 and Shift-7 and so on).Maybe I will remove the panning possibility of the PFD and MFD view again, but I'm not sure yet.Hopefully all this typing was helpfull to someone until we get a real solution for not having Active Camera anymore. ;) And thx to jcboliveira once more for his simple but great tip that prevents a lot of trial and error! :)P.S. Hm, still got one problem to fix, I just noticed... Whatever I do, I suddenly have a default zoom in the VC of 0.69... I want that to be 0,9. I changed all (relevant) Initialzoom entries in the Aircraft.cfg AND the Cameras.cfg, but nothing works... So if someone can tell me how that is possible, feel free to do so. ;) I'm sure it must be something simple...

You could add this text to mine or add a new entry. After all, the possibility of adding new info is the main reason for the wiki.Jos

Hm, well, I've never worked with wiki... Maybe I'll take a look at it. I think my post needs some rewriting in order to 'fit' into a wiki page...
