Reflections

Featured Replies

I am running it maxed out 4k with that resolution setting (forgot what its called) at 80%. In GA its fine. In airliners its fine out of the major cities. So I was looking at improving performance and reflections came to mind. They have always been a performance hog in flight sims and I am not sure its worthwhile in this sim. For one , it restricts the view out of the cockpit when its bright and the effect on the windscreen looks pixilated sometimes even on ultra. It also hampers the view of the gorgeous scenery. The night reflections of the cockpit instrumentation is nice but hardly something I really need.

I turned it off completely since it looks ugly on low settings.  The sim seems to perform a fair bit better but hard to say for sure since i haven't done a like for like test. I was wondering what everyone else was using for this setting and if there was anything else I am missing out on by turning it off?

Edit: in my current flight light is hitting the cockpit and reflecting off the plane in external view so haven't notice anything other than the cockpit glass reflections gone so far. Sim is definitely smoother.

They're GPU bound (as opposed to XP, where reflections are calculated by the CPU), so anyone with GPU time left should set them to Ultra, as the cost isn't very high. If you're on a budget with GPU time, low should do just fine.
