  1. That would be a major step, but it's not that easy. You' can't build landmarks out of lego bricks. But a curated database with a polygon count limit for example, should be possible.
  2. Winds and the interpolation of wind layers is the critical feature of NOAA that makes so many people use it. Turbulence is also very nuanced at there's a little shaky bit of air in most of my IFR flights.
  3. Absolutely fantastic shots. I wonder though, and this goes for all recently posted P3D galleries: The overall brightness and contrast of the sky - it is too low. The colors are on spot, but the overall image seems dimmed. What's up with that?
  4. Haha don't worry it's a thing between me and the UNINSTALLER.
  5. Hey I want some credit for that, too. Thanks for taking the time to post some screens Mario - some profound improvements coming for the next version. The screen demonstrates why I recommend to leave SMP shadows off ATM - they're "above" X-Plane's haze and stick out. Try it out, overall it looks more immersive I believe. Frank of sundog has this on the map though.
  6. Please move on to this topic: http://www.avsim.com/topic/494912-ventura-sky-beta-3-is-here-for-everyone-to-try/
  7. Which fog? Did you do the fix mentioned a few posts above? If you have fog at startup, it's not installed correctly (even if it's clear after reloading the script). A reload is never required.
  8. Oh my god, Pages for Mac did an auto-correct on this code snippet, of course you are right! It needs to be ’float’ !!! self.visibility = EasyDref('sim/multiplayer/position/plane19_speedbrake_ratio', 'float') So basically this typo in the manual will make Beta 2 unusable unless this fix is applied. It also causes the fogged in scenario. What happens is that Ventura Sky will not receive the variable from NOAA (it's zero then), and thus will interpolate visibility to zero = that's the wall of fog that comes rolling in. Beta 3 will be out tonight. Please see the fix above. The crashes you describe, I don't think they are related to Ventura Sky.
  9. First and last screen, epic!
  10. I see you've been trigger happy with some lighting datarefs
  11. Here's a shot of the optimized night lighting, just a notch up from vanilla X-Plane. From about 9500ft. Sky color is aligned with cloud lighting of SkyMaxx + RWC.
  12. I have added an optional setting to prevent the sky to be reflected in water bodies (usually, even the water reflection setting none will still feature the sky reflection). Yes, it kills all reflections - but in return you get moodier dusk flights in areas with a lot of water. I adjusted the water color in the Ventura Sky sky color set so daytime settings don't look too shabby either. It's fully optional though and a matter of taste. It does benefit performance and basically eliminates aliasing issues at borders of water colors, at every angle, every time of day.
  13. As long as I don't hear from Joan, owner of the NOAA plug-in, I won't do a public release on the .org, as it's inconvenient for the users to edit the NOAA .py file themselves. I get very good feedback from the testers, but setting this type of setup / install is not really a great solution. It works though if you follow the instructions. I just added some light and water features (screens to come), and then I am writing a better manual. In the coming days, you'll be able to directly get it here in the forum. I really want this to be a hassle free solution in the end, so I think it's ok to keep it in this semi-released state for now. It will however be incompatible to RTH, there's no way around that. You motivate me.
  14. The lakes around KMCO - an Antialiasing nightmare in the dusk (due to the high contrast of ground and X-Plane's too reflective water). Ventura Sky helps fight the jaggies.
  15. In this demanding Autogen scene the 16sm visibility limit helps tackling the CPU load.
  16. The script smoothly increases visibility above 10000ft. At FL400, visibility is around 100sm. I showcased the increasing visibility with a bunch of shots in a previous post.
  17. This shot demonstrates how 16nm visibility is a good value to let autogen and night lighting blend into the haze (amplified by increased atmospheric scattering), the scripts "bugfix" for cut-off scenery and lighting in the distance.
  18. It works without SMP, but there is no way to have clouds then. Should work without HDR, but you'll be missing out on the scattering improvements (as in vanilla X-Plane). Need to check if it's fully compatible though.
  19. I don't have the time to do videos, but if one of the testers would like to do one, that would be great. Getting some very positive feedback.
  20. Guys, 2.2.2 has been released with the required fix.
  21. Standard X-Plane: /Resources/bitmaps/skycolors (copy the .png's in there, you can restore the originals by running X-Plane updater) SkyMaxx Pro: /Resources/plugins/SilverLining/skyColors (copy the folder there, then activate the set via the SkyMaxx Pro menu in X-Plane)
  22. Yes, plus the sky color set. It does need the NOAA plug-in with small edits in the code for now though. PM me for a test version (it's fully functional).
  23. Well, I did write this down in the initial post? Thing is, it works well without the payware (SMP + RWC); but then there are no clouds. There's no way to get clouds from X-Plane itself as Ventura Sky needs a single, clear cloud layer that goes up to 46000ft. SMP + RWC is the only way to inject clouds in this situation. I am in talks with Frank from Sundog (SMP + RWC), he's testing Ventura Sky also. Maybe we'll find a way to work this into the next major release of SMP, we'll see. Don't know in how far a plug-in can mimic what we're doing in Lua here. A good first step would be if the NOAA plug-in would have a checkbox to support Ventura Sky (right now a manual edit of the file is required), but Joan seems to be busy with other stuff. Fact is with never changing visible weather by RWC, and smooth visibility transitions by Ventura Sky, sudden condition changes are already a thing of the past.
