No seasons???

Featured Replies

For fun I tried changing the month in FS today, and to my utter disappointment, the trees and grass remain green all year long! Sure, I can put some snow on the ground, but stunning autumns was something even the old FS2000 could deliver, so I don't understand why there are no seasons in this new version. I sure hope this is either a bug or incomplete feature to be added later, because no autumn would be sad, and winter doesn't look right just by putting snow on bright green grass and trees...

Speaking of trees, I also have no evergreens, despite those being abundant in my region. Are evergreens even in this new sim, or are all trees deciduous? What do you guys in tropics or deserts have for trees / cacti?

They mentioned in one of the interviews that seasons were indeed coming later. They added snow in a fake way quickly, as that is what most people want from seasons, but, rest assured, they will be working on proper season implementation including colour changes.

It's going to be a tough project with terrain based on satellite photos taken at a time of year when there is the least cloud cover. Maybe not impossible with shaders if they have enough data for seasonal changes. It will be interesting to see how they tackle this.

The sim does include an ephemeris for seasonal changes in sun angle. Go somewhere at a high or low latitude, change the month, and notice how the sun tracks lower to the horizon during Winter days, and more overhead in the Summer.

There are sections of my region that were photographed in the dead of winter, and I can tell the developers went in and added false color to make the snow look like grass (unfortunately to ill effect). I could see them shifting the greens to brown / tan (dead grass) and then using colorful tree assets for the tree autogen, eventually replacing those tree assets with bare trees. If I remember correctly, this is what FSX did (it's been awhile since I've used it). I don't think it'll be that hard.

I do know I'd much rather have summer terrain photography color corrected for winter than what I currently have, which is winter photography poorly "corrected" for a summer look.

The problem is they have not got the present season correct, the tiles do not match in colour and shader, and in some areas just a mass of grids in the scenery, and i was surprised to find that in the UK, lets see how long the wish list remains the wish list as they have higher priority's in progress.
