Wasn’t given handover from tower to departure: solutions?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Discovering this awesome software. I was flying a VFR flight with clearance from Class C to Class C airports and when I was cleared to takeoff I was never asked to contact approach. Instead I was asked to contact ground but I was already in the air.

When something like this happens what is the solution? Saving the plan, quitting, reloading? Then contacting approach directly? Or staying with Tower? Should I request the VFR clearance again?

thanks a lot

Usually this happens when the program mis-interprets what you said or you say a phrase it doesn't expect.  In that case, saying the correct phrase normally fixes the issue.  I would have to review the log to see what happened in this particular case.

Assuming you are on a VFR flight with Flight Following, then you should get the call to contact departure or center after you get to the end of the Tower's control space.  You might be able to recover in the situation you describe by:

  • Disconnect from the SIM
  • Reconnect to the SIM
  • File the same VFR flight Plan
  • Contact Departure and request Flight Following from xxxx to xxxx.

You would then be given a squawk code and the flight should proceed as it would have.
