I’ve gotten away with Corel Paint Shop Pro, but there are some modern and complicated paint kits that just don’t play well with it - either crash the software, hang/load for very long time, lose layer information, etc.  So, my paints have slowed down in recent years unfortunately.  Thankfully no monthly subscription on it either.
