October 3, 20205 yr Whenever I read a book or an article about a specific aircraft I like to download that aircraft and re-create the flight I read about. That was pretty easy in FSX since so many aircraft were available for that simulator. Not so with P3Dv5. Having recently finished a second reading of 'Going Downtown' I wondered f the Virtavia F-105 would work as well in P3dV5 as it did in FSX. It does! Everything functions as it is supposed to. Since I fly the Virtavia C-17 in P3Dv5 I kinda thought it might. Now I am re-reading 'Flight of the Intruder' so I installed the Virtavia EA-3B into my P3Dv5 and I am pleased to say it flies as well as it does in FSX. There are some aircraft I have tried in P3Dv5 that just won't work at all. Like the default FSX B747-400. For some reason after about 5 minutes of flight everything shuts down for some reason. It's a hit or miss proposition but many FSX aircraft do function well in P3Dv5. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
October 3, 20205 yr I love doing this. I've done "Flight of Passage" by Rinker Buck twice with the A2A Cub in FSX and P3Dv2. I did a flight described in "North Star over my Shoulder" by Bob Buck (no relation) where the author flew with actor Tryone Power in a DC-3 from Los Angeles to South Africa to the UK and back to LA. I did that with the Manfred Jahn C-47 in P3Dv4.5. The big one is author Stephen Coonts "Cannibal Queen" which I've done in FSX and P3Dv2 with the Golden Age Simulations Stearman, then started it a third time in P3Dv4.5 with the GAS Super Stearman which I repainted in Cannibal Queen colors. I got as far as Niagara Falls in that one, about 1/3 of the full flight. I picked it up again in MSFS and by the time I got to Washington State I got the GAS Super Stearman ported to MSFS and am most of the way back to Niagara Falls. The entire route is 11,300 nautical miles and takes about 135 hours to complete at 85 knots. There is something very special about recreating a flight you've read about in a flight simulator. It's almost as if you're flying right along with the author. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
