external vs internal SSD drive

Hi,

I bought a Samsung 1 TB external SSD. What I'd like to know is, since my computer won't take anything bigger than a 500GB internal SSD, what would the degradation of speed be over a USB cable?

It can be significant, but why won't your computer accept anything larger than a 500 GB SSD?

No actually it's Dell XPS 8900 oh, I believe the build date was some time in 2017. That's why it won't take anything larger than 500 gig

I'll also share this, it appears that many people have purchased and successfully instaled 1TB SSD's into the PC that you have. Apparently someone even installed an M2 drive. You might need to update the bios. the idea of a PC built in 2017 not being able to use a 1T SSD is just ludacris.

I thought that was an old Windows thing.  Any recent PC should support a 1TB drive
