October 10, 20205 yr Hi, has anyone else experienced the following? When I start up VoxATC 7.42 within Prepar3d 4.5 on Windows 10, I've noticed that no matter what microphone level I set (via the "Microphone Properties - Levels" tab), whether higher or lower, VoxATC sets it back to 81%. This is completely reproducable and happens as soon as VoxATC finishes initializing and also when the "push to talk" button is pressed. I've tried all the suggestions I've found so far (including those from a Microsoft Windows Support chat), but so far nothing has worked. These include deselecting "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" on the "Microphone Properties - Advanced" tab. Nothing I've done so far allows me to save any microphone level other than 81%. Incidentally, just for reference, the Microphone Properties panel I'm referring to above can be reached via the Windows Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Sound - Recording tab, selecting the Microphone and choosing properties. Is the microphone level of 81% some sort of VoxATC default value? Has anyone been successful at setting and saving another microphone level? Thanks for any tips/advice. - Bob
October 11, 20205 yr I'll check this out tomorrow, but in the meantime, do you have your microphone set to BOTH the default input and default communications devices? | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)

Bob I have never had an issue with a "headset" mic ...... is your problem that vox is not responding to your comms or are you expecting to hear yourself (echo / echo) vox is not replicating 1970's intercomms .... for now, cheers john martin
October 11, 20205 yr Author Thanks for the replies. Gridley, I *think* I have it set correctly. Does this image illustrate what you are referring to? If not, can you please clarify a little further as to how I set those defaults? https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50449989528_c6d4b443c9.jpg[/img] Vadriver, I do not expect to hear myself. The problem is that Vox is not always responding to my comms. That is, it is asking me to repeat myself ("last aircraft say again"). I discovered that by increasing the microphone level, this helps greatly. I'm fairly certain I was able to do this in the past, but now I cannot get the setting to stick. I'm not sure what changed. Here is an example scenario - while running Prepar3d but prior to enabling Vox, I have the Microphone Properties displayed alongside so that I can see what is happening. I pre-set the microphone level to 95%, then I enable Vox. Shortly before initialization completes, the volume level gets reduced back down to 81%. I try setting it back to 95%, but upon first press of the "push to talk" button, it is again reset down to 81%.

Just make sure your headset is set to both. Do the same on the recording tab for your mic. I've found that really important for input devices on my system. October 11, 20205 yr Author Ah! Sorry, I should have mentioned before that I am actually not using a headset. Rather, I am using a clip-on mic (https://www.ttesports.com/productPage.aspx?p=111&g=ftr#.X4MqIWhJGUk) whilst having the sound come out of my speakers. So, under the playback tab, I see that the default device is "Speakers" and under the Recording tab, I see that the default device is "Microphone". These default devices are also the only ones enabled. I don't see a way to set up a separate "default communications device" though. The "set default" dropdown is disabled for both devices (since I guess they are already set as default) and right-clicking them does not show any "set as default" options.

October 15, 20205 yr Author Hi vadriver, I still have the issue of not being able to control the microphone level - no progress there. It is still always pegged at 81%. However, I am now utilizing a kind of "workaround". Rather than trying to change the microphone level, I am now simply setting the microphone boost to the max of +30.0 dB. It's probably not as precise as being able to control the level, but it does seem to improve things. The "say again" requests seem a lot less frequent. :-) - Bob
October 19, 20205 yr Author Interesting, I've never used an equalizer app before. Just might do that. Thanks for the suggestion! - Bob
