Question re addon liveries

Featured Replies

OK, it may be a silly question but I've looked around and can't see anything about this elsewhere so . . .

If I've installed something like the livery mega-pack, which has now dumped a load of aircraft-specific folders into my community folder, how do I then add other individual liveries for any specific aircraft. IE if I've got the A320 with its dozens of liveries but want to install someone else's addon folder for the same A320, do I have to manually edit the mega-pack's aircraft.cfg file and do all the same stuff I would have done for P3D/FSX or can I just put the new addon in under a new name (or something like that)

Any advice or pointers gratefullyh received,

cheers,

Andy

It is my understanding that MSFS does not care what the folder name(s) are in the Community folder itself. When MSFS is started, it systematically goes into each and every folder in the Community folder looking for specific files (usually layout.json and manifest.json) which tell it what to do with the add on.

You are free to name the add on folder within the Community folder whatever you wish (with the possible exception of some payware add ons). Just do not change anything within the add on folder itself.

You may also want to note that the more add ons you have in the Community folder, the longer it may take MSFS to start up. You may wish to investigate using an add on manager. I recommend this one: https://flightsim.to/file/1572/msfs-addons-linker

Thanks Jim. I'd wondered if that sort of logic (I use the term loosely) applied but hadn't experimented for fear of messing it all up. I'll go and have a play later. And I've already noticed an ever lengthening delay in my start up times so I guess I'll no doubt have to adopt some kind of management technique for that folder as well. I'd hoped we might have moved past that in the new sim but I guess not. It would be easier to live with that if it accepted additions/removals dynamically, like P3D. Maybe time to go and add that as a request I guess.

Well I have installed the South Africal livery of the dreamliner 787 and it damaged the auto pilot of this plane so I have to uninstall the simulator and I am buzy now reinstalling it. From now on I will only install add ons via the market plave of the sim.
