I had GTN750 for 2 months and really enjoy it. But the last week and a half XPlane 11.50-running on GL (STEAM version) freezes after about 45 minutes and I have CNTRL-ALT-DELETE out. That and any attempts to change frozen views I get the spinning- blue-ball- of- death. I tried everything..reinstall and update (2.5.27) of GTN. I ran the sim without any add-on plugins..and reintroduced them one at a time..a tedious affair...took out mesh scenery...Nothing seems to work. But narrowed the freezing down to the GTN750 if I just have that optional plugin working. And ONLY that one. If I run the same route with the stock XPlane 11 GPS I get no freeze at all. I don't think it is overheating because 3 weeks ago I flew for 3 hours over the Sierra Nevada using the 750GTN with no problems.

I've used this GTN 750 in a Carenado T210 embedded in panel and as a pop-up in the vFlyteAir_Cessna150Commuter.

Checking Anti Virus and Firewall I see nothing quarantined or blocked. FWIW I have no problems with Trainer. Cleaned out my STEAM cache, Successfully validated my files in STEAM.

Log files show nothing except what version is installed.

My HP system is not a high end but it works perfectly at the  low-end of graphics in XPlane and I never had a problems for a little over a month I had the GTN. Any help or suggestion I would really appreciate. TIA.

Hi,

Since you're been flying the GTN int the past without any issue, do you have any idea what you might have changed or updated in your system between then and now?

This could be a XP11 bug as well which is exacerbated only in using the GTN. Is there any particular indication in the XP11 log file about errors or warning prior the freezing?

2 major updates on Win 10 (can't control that)

As much as I hate to think about it I suspect there may be something corrupted in my STEAM XP11 installation-even though I validated files. Validation might replace a file missing-but not sure if it detects a corrupted file.🤨

I even changed the interval of when weather in is injected with stock program. Even reduced AI traffic.

I examined the log files but nothing stands out.

 

Oh yes-I do use GTN750  exclusively.

There is another customer having a display issue where the screen blinks every time the GNS refreshes the screen and this is also when running in OGL instead of Vulkan. We're in contact with XP11 devs and they're also looking on their end what could be probable causes for this specific bug, but so far there is nothing particularly know to them.

Although this is not related to your issue, could yours be happening in OGL only but working fine in Vulkan?

I'll try Vulkan now.

Sad to say Vulkan doesn't work. Recall why I ditched it. Pop-up like GTN750 or Auto-Pilot popup flicker on and off. Suroundings look fine-but no way to use pop-ups.

 

Besides the graphics glitch you're having with popup windows in Vulkan, do you mean it is fine if using the GTN in the virtual cockpit?

In this case, is it possible you try out a flight with 3D cockpit GTN only and see if this freezes as well after a certain time? This might help a lot troubleshooting this problem on your system.

Well I don't fly in a Virtual 3D cockpit environment with headset if that is what you mean.

Just standard cockpit  I move around with with a hat switch (Track IR makes me dizzy). First 40-45 minutes it is entirely normal. I can use all the features in GTN750.

I always fly the same route on the map from Dillingham Field on Oahu and hook around the  north-eastern most point on Oahu-using open ocean waypoints available in the GTN. Always freezes in the off-shore Kaneohe area. But I have gotten this freeze on another entirely different route I have taken at least twice. So it isn't a map glich.. As I said no problem with in game stock GPS  It's always around the 40 to 45 minute mark when using GTN750. I'll be flying along then everything just stops. No warning. No stutters. Like frozen in Amber. If I ALT-TAB out I get the spinning beach ball. Then have to CNTRL_DELETE-OUT

Graphically it isnt a challenging route-ocean like desert wont task a computer like cityscape. Since I keep my graphic settings low the clouds are no problem.

I've Active Sky XP and default weather-same result. I been testing it with the Carenado T-210. Really not a demanding aircraft on my system.

I'll try it out with the GTN not being a popup. In fact I will try no popups. I'll try both Vulkan and GL.

Both cases start with engine on.

Flew it with GL-never used a pop-up. Same result. Freeze after 40+ minutes. No warning or stutter -and you can hear engine running in background.

 

In Vulcan-couldnt fly it-tabs lower left of screen [Cessna T-210 Carenado tabs for auto-pilot/view/static items] flash-on and off as well as Auto Pilot pop up flashed.The weird part was GTN 750 pop-out was already up when I entered airplane at start. It flashed. But then stopped flashed but was normal when I clicked to close it..but the panel in the dash went black. But when I clicked in various areas of the black area of the panel GTN [like where map icon would be] the map showed up in the pop-up when I activated AND THIS TIME a non flashing pop-up of the GTN appeared with the proper click command. No flashing.

Carenado tabs and AP pop up still flashed.

I could only have flown with GTN pop up... and we already know the results of that.

 

Just for laughs I ran the trip 2x the ground speed. {in GL}.  Covered twice the distance but still froze about 40 minutes into flight.

Thank you for the additional information. We've submitted a request to XP11 devs and are awaiting some answers about their OGL interface and XP11.50 in case they know about a bug or they are currently investigating similar reports.

In the meanwhile, can you please manually edit the RealityXP.GTN.ini file in notepad and add the following:

[GTN_750_1]
LogTrainer = 5
DebugValue = 1

 

The next time you fly, the GTN log files should report any particular internal problem, if any.
