Say hello to Volanta

I use it now, and quite like it for a few reasons.

  1. Links into simbrief so I can download the flight plan to it. I use Simbrief way more now.
  2. The maps huge and is a much more enjoyable place to see how I'm tracking (No more V for me). Especially as you can magnify it to get street names on it
  3. It makes the whole experience feel more real, the world feels populated with aircraft even if you don't see them in flight.
  4. I like the concept of how they organise the planes, but it can be annoying trying to find the one you're after. (needs better search options as it currently mainly by reg number and hours flown)
  5. Once I've loaded a flight it'll predict which is the closest aircraft you last used in the area and recommend it.
  6. It shows on the map where all your flights have been to.
  7. It also shows where you last landed each aircraft. (IE: where it's currently based).
  8. Active flight shows flight number, planes Reg' number, current height, heading, gd speed, time remaining eta and remaining miles. (plus flight plan)
  9. You can show all users (and there routes) or just your applications, (Volanta, Vatsim, IVAO etc) I find it works better just showing Volanta.
  10. Avsim users get frequencies for locations being covered.
  11. Records how often you go to each airport
  12. Most importantly it's free!

I'm currently flying a TUI flight from Amsterdam to St Marten, onto Curacao, then return to Amsterdam. The whole flight gets mapped and shown on the map, and I can see my global progress vs just seeing a small part of the world using the mfs map.

I also now do a daily commute in the 787 from Singapore to Ho Chi Min city or the return leg so gives me something to work towards.

So it's got a lot of ideas/concepts, costs nothing and immerses me into the flights. A win win in my book.
