De-icing on C172 ?

In the real world, do most GA pilots typically avoid using cabin heat for this reason (CO poisoning risk)?

I use it. If it goes awry then at least I die warm and comfy.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

When MSFS first launched on 18th August, the route I used to fly very frequently was EGGP to EGLC, full IFR, autopilot etc, in the C172 g1000. It's a troll flight I know, cause c172s wouldn't be allowed to go anywhere near EGLC in real life, but I was doing this for testing purposes.

I refuse to use any weather other than live weather, (and it's spot on so far). I had been using the default MSFS flight planner for this....SID, STAR, Approach, ILS etc. Everything was fine, and I continued to do this same flight from August, to September, to October. Cruising altitude as determined by default flight planner (and AI ATC) is and has always been 11,000, and I've always complied with that altitude.

Then winter arrived in UK (and MSFS's live weather as well lol). and skies started to become less clear and more foggy and cloudy. And now whenever I would climb to 7-8000 feet, I'd get icing all over the plane, it would stall and force me to disconnect autopilot and decrease altitude to around 4-5000. Suffice it to say I can no longer do this EGGP to EGLC flight in the c172, not using the live weather oh no, and hence I'm now learning the TBM 930. Downloaded the POH and all that. Should get the community mod/s for it too.
