October 30, 20205 yr October 29, 2020 ...My version is the Steam version MSFS 2020. I have played this sim just fine for months, every day. But now I can't boot it up to play because the update is stuck and I see no way to bypass the update. About half of the 9GB + update did download OK.. until it gets to this file: downloading pc-fs-base-bigfiles-0.1.80.fspackage <==this file will not download, it keeps starting to download the file, then stops and tries again, then stops and tries again. The update will not proceed. This has gone on now for many hours. Can anybody help? October 30, 20205 yr The two things people have done to get past this are: 1. clear out the community folder (store everything elsewhere ready to put back after patch) 2. disconnect ALL USB device, especially joysticks HOTAS etc
October 30, 20205 yr Author I already cleared the community folder. Have not tried disconnecting usb devices, will do that now. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. October 30, 20205 yr Just now, Fielder said: I already cleared the community folder. Have not tried disconnecting usb devices, will do that now. Let us know. I'm unable to get past the 4.81Gb mark this time. The next large file download continuously fails and restarts. It's been like this for me with just about every patch. In past patched, it eventually (often many hours later) works. I'd love to know why though, so I could fix it. Gets boring take a day to download a friggin patch. October 30, 20205 yr Author There is no reason for any software to not be able to download a file to your computer. Sure there may be issues installing files or playing the game once the file is downloaded, but why would the game designer block their update files from even downloading to the computer of those who purchased the game? It makes no sense for Asobo to do this. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. October 30, 20205 yr Author here is what may work (it seems to be working for me, not sure as it will take a long time to check it fully). You need to throttle back your router speed (or modem speed if you are using a wired LAN instead of wifi router)., There are wifi speed control apps online, none of which could find my router (I think because mine is a USB wifi card instead of a motherboard bus wifi controller). So here is how with most any router. Find the Windows Start menu and type: cmd (this opens a DOS box) type ipconfig Look for Default Gateway and see the numbers such as it could be 192.168.0.1 Open any webrowser and type those numbers in the URL or Find box on top the browser page You should now see that you are at your router's settings page. For both User and Password type: admin (upper case ADMIN will not work, must be lower case admin) Each router manufacturer of the router will have different menu settings, here's the TP Link brand router settings: BANDWIDTH CONTROL Checkmark this box: => Enable Bandwidth Control (It is always unchecked by default to give you maximum router speed. So you must check this box if you want to slow it down.) I used 2048 Kbps for Ingress (download) which is 2.048 Megabytes per second which is slow but so far it has not jammed, keeps downloading slow but sure. Before I was getting 20+ Mbps and now about 1.5 Mbps. But the update has never jammed so far. Reference: Here is where I learned the general idea. From there I had to google my router manufacture and find my PDF router user manual. But this should work for any router! Several forum members in the thread had my exact problem and their idea of slowing DL speed seemed to work for everybody with the problem. October 30, 20205 yr Author You won't need a router user manual. the above steps work for just about any make and model of router. (I just needed the manual to find those steps). And try a faster speed than 2.048 Mbps first, updates will probably not choke at 6Mbps or something like that. Too fast is what is causing most updates to jam. October 30, 20205 yr Author It turned out that this was the sweet spot 10240 Kbps (10.24 Mbps). It never hung up even once. Before reducing wifi speed it was locked for over 7 hours at the same point and same file in the update screen. Then after the update was done, I unckecked 'Enable Bandwidth Control' so internet is back to full speed everywhere. I did not have any CTD after updating because I followed advice here to unplug all USB controllers the first time MSFS is booted after the update. Then quit MSFS and replug in the controllers and reboot MSFS. It flies perfectly now after the update. It's all good. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel.
