November 14, 200619 yr Hi folks,I recently expanded to 2 GB RAM (533 DDR2). Framerates mostly are acceptable (10-20 fps) but the slow reload of texture-tiles drives me crazy. Is there any workaround? My system:Dell Precision 380, Dual Core Pentium D 3 GHZ2GB RAMNvidia Geforce 7800 GT, 256 MB RAMTweaks:TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=4500 TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=3000TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33With that kind of performance FSX for me is not a "Game for windows" but a "gaussian blur" -> "look, these could be your textures but you won
November 14, 200619 yr sorry but many of us are in the same boat, its just unfortunate this program is worst than Fs2000!! I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram

November 14, 200619 yr Hi Boris,Allcott is correct.TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=3000TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=1500TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.50You might also try adding:[BUFFERPOOLS]PoolSize=5000000This is inserted above the [TRUSTED] section at the end of the main list - [Misc] is probably the last entry at the bottom of the list. These settings seem to work pretty well for me. I tried the texture reduction tweaks, but was not convinced so reverted back to defaults which is where I am at present.MikeASRock 939Dual-SATA2, AMD Athlon 64X2 3800+ (2000MHz)(K8 Manchester/Toledo), 2GB Crucial PC3200 DDR400 Ram 1CMD (Dual Channel), (AGP 8X) Saphire ATI Radeon X800 XL (R430) 256MB (Omega 3.8.273 (Catalyst 6.7), SB Audigy2 ZS Platinum (Drivers version 5.12.0001.1196 WHQL)
November 14, 200619 yr My new 8800gts all but cured my blurries. The only time i get them now is when switching from cockpit to outside view for about 5 seconds while the card redraws the background. This new card is phenomenal. I think it must have a lot to do with the video memory. I got the blurries a lot with the 7900gt and its 256MB of memory but the 640 MB on the 8800gts does a fine job of keeping up.Dave
November 14, 200619 yr *******, this game has to load a mesh and some (repeating) ground-textures???!!I played games like HL 2, AOE III and recently the new Anno 1701 with endless amount of different AI-objects, meshs, trees etc. and never had ANY problem - same goes for working in a Maya scene with some million polygons + textures..Sounds more that to bake an egg in FSX I need a furnace ..But thanks for all answers!Boris

November 14, 200619 yr >I don't get the blurries with an old 128m 9800pro.>I wonder what the AGP aperature is set at in the BIOS.>Something is irregular somewhere. Yes but what is the right answer here?I've read many times on these forums that your AGP aperture should match your video RAM (the higher the RAM, the HIGHER the AGP aperture should be). But I have an ATI X800XT with 256MB and with aperture set at 256 I get a lot of blurries too.Yet again, if you do a search on sites such as 3Dguru.com or tweak.com they tell you that the higher your video card RAM, the LOWER you should set your AGP aperture. So which is which?Yours puzzled,Pietro.

It doesn't take more than half an hour to run through all the likely possibilities and rerun FSX to find out what impact any changes have.I settled on 512 meg. Techie sites aren't trying to get FSX to run with acceptable performance!Allcott
November 15, 200619 yr Author Dunno. Like Allcot says, the best way is just to trythem and see if any difference. I know on my box, I had it set at like 64mb when I first fired up FSX. That was whatI had been using with FS9, and it was ok. But FSX didn't likeit too much. It was gagging at first, and the AGP aperaturewas one of the first things I checked. I set it to 128, and viola!, much better. So I set it to 256, and not a whole lotof difference, but maybe slightly better yet, so I left it at 256. Thats the max setting on this box. I think basically all the AGP aperature does is allocatea certain amount of system ram to storing textures, but maybe others can give a better description. I know on fs9, if I set it real low, it effected my runway lights, etc. Made them look less detailed , or something.. I forgot..I would think the reason that they say to lower it for a highram card would be to leave more system ram for the program. But FSX seems to need a pretty high setting or it kind of gags.I also run my TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=400 like I did with FS9.Seems to do better than the low stock setting on my box. How much autogen you running? Are these blurries just arounddense places or even out in the boonies too?BTW...The problem I had from too low a AGP setting was exactly what you are getting. I was getting texture res reductionbefore it's time, and the eventual "blurries". Setting it highand the TBM=400 seemed to cure it here as long as I don't get carried away with the autogen and sap the vid system dry.MK Mark Keith
