November 15, 200619 yr Anyone tried the Australian Simulation Glasair III in FSX yet. I'm looking for a top notch GA, and this one is speedy, looks good, has smooth gauges and all. But how is it to fly? Are the systems and nav/gps facilities well done? Flight model any good?Eagle
November 15, 200619 yr Yes and it is GREAT! I have flown it at least once every night since I purchased it. the guages are ultra smooth and it is nice having a dedicated FSX GA aircraft besides the slow putters that came with the box.All in all a very good buy, whether you fly VC or not.I am very happy with the purchase.
November 16, 200619 yr Absolutely love it. I fly it everyday because it feels REAL. Love to fly in on PHOG in Maui. Great experience with the ocean, the mountains and the autogen. Works phenomenally well. BUY IT!
November 16, 200619 yr a bit of a contrastive viewpoint if you will FYI:1. Cant say too much about how real the flight model feels as ive never flown a real glasair, but there are 1 or 2 issues that concern me here...the first one is that the plane (in turns) tends to drive more like a car than any aircraft ive flown in before because it tends to "right" itself quite quickly if you dont keep constant aileron pressure when performing a turn. SOME real planes do have this tendancy but from what i know its not to this degree, meaning it happens much slower/gradual, whereas this glasair model will straighten itself out very quickly in certain situations...dunno if thats a real characteristsic for this plane or not but it feels terrible if its not what you expected. The only other flying issue that stands out immediately to me is that the plane just feels very over-powered at first...granted the real plane can do well over 200kts..but this thing can accelerate to that almost immediately after takeoff...just feels sort of like a rocket.2. Either the plane is missing a generator/alternator switch OR the Master Battery switch needs to be slaved to the fsx generator because the only way to avoid losing all electrical power is to turn on the generators using the fsx key command. This is obviously a bug and still no official word from the author regarding any expected patch anytime soon.3. it is not a true FSX plane...it comes with a proper fsx installer but essentially its just an fs9 port. No viewable landing/taxi lights.4. and this is strictly opinion, but i feel the vc panel and cabin graphics textures are quite flat and uninteresting (as well as very blocky in some areas), they are all hand painted in a way that gives no feeling or look of photo-realism. Take that as you will because some folks love that look.5. The nav/gps you mention seems to work fine6. External visuals are excellent, not sure how detailed it is compared to real plane but what you get is done nicely and will take lovely screens if youre into that.7. Best part of this plane by far is the smoothness of the flight gauges...i mean SMOOTH, liquid smooth...even smoother than the RXP Flightline T stuff...its great.so like most other releases out there..its got its strong points as well as its short-commings and issues...all depends on what your priorities are in a new plane you purchase. Personally i give it a 7 out of 10 they way it is right now before a patch...but im also EXTREMELY picky & unforgiving as my wallet and I have been at this for more than 20 years now :-)Dave Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons
November 16, 200619 yr Author Thanks a lot!Of course I did buy it (always do), I think it's great fun to fly although a bit strange with its tendency of flying like a jet trainer with piston sound :-cool.The way the gauges are constructed? The only way from now on please developers!Eagle
