Hi all,

I've been looking for a 30hz capable monitor for P3D. I've looked far and wide and can't for the life of me find one which would suit. I tried using the monitor finder on displayspecifications.com to no avail also.

I'm looking for a 2560x1440 monitor @ 27-32 inches. If anyone has one/knows of one, would you mind letting me know?

Cheers,

Oliver Mitchell.

@a320driverOM. Oliver, I've looked at the BenQ range of 27" 2560*1440 monitors - all high quality displays - and none have 30Hz capability. I suspect you will struggle to find one. You're best bet is to use the half-refresh rate 'fix' in RivaTuner's RTSS utility.

The alternative is to consider a 32" UHD monitor such as the BenQ PD3200U which does support 30Hz and is superb. You would need a 1080Ti or faster though.

another alternative is to consider getting a tv.  Just make sure you look for 4:4:4 chroma.

Smallest TVs with 4:4:4 would be 43" with UHD/4K. Our friend hasn't returned to AvSim since posting last Thursday. 😏

Hi Oliver, I have a 34" Dell Ultrasharp 3415W and in NV Control Panel I am able to set it to 30Hz at 3440x1440--which IMO currently offers the best experience in P3D and MSFS in terms of delivering the smoothest, most consistent stutter-free performance at the lowest utilization cost to both CPU & GPU.

I've had it for several years and would buy it again.  I paid a bit more for mine.  I don't find its 30Hz capability when I look at Dell's specs FWIW.

Noel, Looking at the user guide there’s no mention of 3440*1440@30Hz which I find odd given it’s achievable. I suspect they only list the maximum Hz rather than the minimum. If 30Hz is achievable at 1920*1080 it apparently is at the higher resolution too.

Yes I read that too but indeed it does 30Hz at 3440x1440.

And I just slopped into it's 30Hz capability so very lucky for me I didn't appreciate what it meant at the time.  And this makes me realize I might need to avoid AMD GPU in case there is something NV drivers do to make this possible, along with the monitor's capability.  Ugh!

@Noel, when I first tried 30Hz I wasn’t convinced because mouse lag was a pain. So I went back to 60Hz but the demands on the CPU and GPU resulted in many stutters even though fps could climb into the 50s away from airports.

Then I tried this half refresh rate thing in RivaTuner but that just resulted in a micro stutter fest. So I went back to 30Hz and used FSUIPC to adjust Ai to get 30 Hz. That now works well and I’ve got used to the mouse lag.

The only thing that causes stutters now is the loading of Ai 80nm out from large airports. That’s unavoidable and over in a few seconds. Overall, 30Hz is great. 👍

I don't see any mouse lag I wonder why that is?  I had pretty good luck w/ RiveTurner for sure, but not as good as vsync 30Hz.  The only situation that would change that for me would be being able to run the sim at the same solid 60fps as I can at 30fps.  To me this should be the holy grail, but we're just not there yet, and actually, the difference isn't earth-shattering anyway as I've tried it in modest areas of P3D where I could easily maintain solid 60 no matter what.

On a different point, how are you liking the Fulcrum?  I had mixed feelings about proceeding, but I'm feeling more favorable about it as I'm trying landing using my crude Saitek and already doing kind of good enough.  I was using trim for years before this.

The mouse is definitely less responsive at 30Hz than 60Hz. Understandable as only half the movements are reflected on the screen. But as I said, you adjust and the positives outweigh the negatives. I find 30fps totally fluid and I can get that at most places except Heathrow. More tweaking of settings should fix that.

I'm enjoying the Fulcrum very much. It takes a while to adjust such is the range of elevator movement compared to the Saitek. Combined with a quality air model such as the Vertx DA62 you can make very precise changes in pitch and heading. The case is very compact too. Highly recommended.

i agree.  mouse lag is slightly annoying at 30hz vs 60.  Usually I just tolerate it when simming, then when not flying I switch refresh rate back to the native 60hz for me.
