Struggling to get 30 fps with 27inch 1440p monitor MSFS2020

Featured Replies

Hi

I have an i7700k processor with an 1070 gpu for my monitor but am struggling to get 30 fps on medium settings in MSFS2020. Is this about right and what should I upgrade first ? Any advice much appreciated. Game runs off an evo 500g SSD with 32 Gb ram.

Thankyou.

I use a gtx 1070 to drive a single 1440 monitor and usually get a reasonably smooth 30 fps, even in dense scenery areas.  I have externally limited my fps to 30 using the nvidia desktop control panel, and have the in sim vsync set to "off".  I use High-End settings with a few set to Ultra and have both level of detail sliders set to 200, though I also have an 5Ghz overclocked 10700k running HyperThreaded.  I stated all this so you'd know that a gtx 1070 can deliver, IMO, reasonable performance with settings at a modified High-End level though only at 30 fps (which may seem undesirable, but coming from using FSX/P3D, it's completely acceptable if it's smooth).  BTW I really want to upgrade that 1070.

Try the external 30 fps limit with the in sim vsync set to off, for me without those settings MSFS is a stuttering mess.  If that doesn't help, it looks that your CPU isn't able to cope with MSFS.  Be sure that HyperThreading is on.  Try monitoring MSFS performance by using the Task Manager's Performance tab.  You'll need to see the plots for all the cores (CPUs), which can be shown by right-clicking in that window and selecting Change Graph to Logical processors.  If any of these CPUs' plot are mostly/constantly at max value when flying, that's a sure sign that your CPU is being overburdened.  Lowering the levels may help.  Scaling should be set at 100%, lowering that won't help.  Hope you can get this under control.
