November 30, 20205 yr I am fairly new the Pilot2ATC so I did a number of short training flights using MFS2020 from LMML to LICC and had some issues, I appreciate if I can have some guidance clarifications:- 1. During flights am I supposed to have the ATC handing me from one controller to the other ? or I have to just follow the filed plan ? To give an example I was expected to be handled to Rome Ctr and Brindisi Ctr before LICC approach but nothing happened on the way. After departure the controller said bye butr never asks me to change altitude although, at least one time I heard the ATC complaining that I am off course and that is because the AP issue with MFS2020, I switched off AP and continued manually then no complains but nothing else. 2. During one of the flights after take off the ATC was asking me to report traffic at sight, three times in row with different traffic, each time I was trying to confirm in sight but did not give me much chance as the controller was repeating one after the other. After that I didn't hear anything else and I followed the plan and after starting descending from FL190 to FL70, at around FL110 I thought I report back to LICC Approach, at that point ATC answered by asking me repeating that I should climb to FL190, all this while LICC was already in sight. In the end I missed approach and asked for Vectors which ATC complied happily and vectored me back to runway. The issue of the ATC asking me to climb when approaching happened to me even before P2A (default MFS2020) so I am not sure if this is an MFS2020 issue.
November 30, 20205 yr Commercial Member On an IFR filed flight plan you should get altitude clearances up to your filed cruise altitude or instructed to climb via a SID. You should also get handed from one controller to the next. If you are VFR, or if you don't file a flight plan and get clearance for that plan, after leaving the tower radius you will be released and not receive any further instructions. I recommend you watch one or two of the many full flight videos on YouTube to get a sense of how it is supposed to work. Dave
