MY Solution for Low FPS - I already had Project Magenta

Featured Replies

Hello,After install and Tweaks, FSX on my system (ASUS AN8-SLI Delux, AMD64 3500+, 2 gigs Corsair Ram and 2 Nvidia 6800's in SLI) ran OK - about 20 FPS except with a lot of traffic at KSEA and such. I also have a rather complete set of GOFLIGHT modules and CH yoke/pedals. When I added my old Carenado aircraft and PMDG 1900 it was still the same. However, when I added the FSX Liberty and SR-22 from Eaglesoft and updated my Legacy from Feelthere it went "south" - dropped to 8 fps and was really bad. I became fearfull that the future of my addons like PMDG LDS etc was grim.I have always had a small network of three computers tied with WIDEFS and I ran Project Magenta software in FS9.1. It is a bother to set them all up but I used to enjoy it. They are also very pricey (The PM software). What I have done now is go back to the default aircraft in FSX and delete the panels. I also deleted the panels in the addons. I then set up the Project Majenta modules and tried them with FSX - Boeing, Airbus, Regional Jet, GA-IFR and even the Overhead for the 737 - it works great. FPS are not great but they are at least back to 20+ FPS.I can now fly sims with displays, MCP's and FMS support. My post is probably not interesting to anyone without PM software but my point is my disappointment that I have to resort to this to get my FSX system to run OK. I really enjoy flight simming and hope the future of FSX leads to updates that allow me to use my addons again with hi-res scenery and textures.Cheers,Ron Sagel

Hey Ron,does Project Magenta work with PMD747? Meaning..Could I use the PM's FMC and the MCP and display the PM's MFD and PFD but it would show the numbers and plans like in PMDG747? What about the engine start (The Ovehead panel)What are the things that I cannot control from the PMDG?Manny PS: I have the PM IFR panel and I know how that works and I also love their quality of work with their product..but I can't imagine how it would work for a complex aircraft like the 747. And their user forum sucks. Technically I mean. Their forum is so complex...it looks like they are in the legacy world of mainframes that you need a user manual or an insider to figure out how their forum works.

Hello,Sorry but I cannot help here yet. I just installed the PM/FSX idea on my system and have just tried the interfaces. I flew GAIFR and it was fine. I do not fly 747 flights. The biggest heavy metal I fly is the 737 and Airbus. I'll give this a try soon and let you know if the Overhead (PMSYSTEM) and the MCP/FMS work there.Cheers,Ron Sagel

Hello again,Here is what I know up till now:1. I used all PM modules except the PMSYSTEM (Overhead)2. All work fine functionally3. I tried my three display/computer setup with default 747 cockpit on right FSX in the center - no panel MCP and CDU on the left4. I hand programmed KCHS-> KMIA in the CDU with a few waypoints (SAV)5. I took off and switched on the MCP and CDU - all worked fine6. I have a big GOFLIGHT setup so I can flip all switches/Flaps/Gear without the panelOnly missing element is the map of the CDU plan on the cockpit display - it never showed up but I may have missed something - I don't use it because I have QuickMap (PM Module) for maps and the CDU is 100% functional for both the 737 and 747 defaults.Other than the plan, the flight worked fine and with my GOFLIGHT setup I can control the system(s) without a panel.I also tried another GA both single and twin and that also went great.I have a GOFLIGHT panel setup with 8 display panel codes so I can throw up any of the 2D panels(GPS,Radio, etc) in the center screen if need be) Well that's about all - its pricey but it all works. If I had my way now and I did not own all of this, I would opt for whatever "super computer" that can duplicate my functionality in FSX and run the new FSX smoothly with whatever the addon guys produce.Cheers,Ron Sagel
