ADE GP Editor

Featured Replies

I have been using the GP Editor in Airport Design Editor to add additional markings to some of my airfields, but there is one that appears to be missing from the database. This is the taxiway shoulder marking (the one that is basically a double yellow line with short, closely spaced yellow lines on the outside, and perpendicular to the double yellow line). Does anyone know how to create this in the ADE GP Editor? Am I supposed to use a separate option next to the double yellow line, or is there a specific texture that can be used for this purpose? I do not see anything obvious in the ADE GP database.

Think of it as a thick line.  One can draw a 6 meter wide line and use "gp_TwyShourlder_100F" for main texture and "Straight-50F/15M" for line patter/style.

I do not seem to be able to get those textures to display at all, even though all of the others that I have used work just fine....

Go here and at the bottom of the page, download the latest texture version.  Right now it's 2.2.23.8.  Follow the instructions in the Readme.txt file.  Fingers crossed this works for you.

Those textures did not seem to be quite compatible with my version of ADE, but fortunately I had a backup  It still puzzles me why the Taxiway shoulder markings are not visible, considering that every other texture that I have used seems to work fine....

I see that you've now posted at FSdeveloper.  That's best place for these kinds of issues.  Have you seen a post there titled "Oops! - ADE-GP"?

I find it rather odd that there is not an ADE GP texture database available where people like myself can download additional textures as required. It seems to me that everyone is expected to create their own custom textures, which seems like a waste of resources to me.

On a side note, I had another problem with ADE GP today. After making lots of modifications to the UK2000 version of EGHQ Newquay, I was confronted with an error which stopped me from compiling the changes that I had made. I thought that a couple of hours of work was going to be wasted, but thankfully I identified the source of the problem by trial and error (I removed small parts of the changes that I had made, and tested the compiler until it worked). It was the ADE GP version of the "ILS Hold Short" texture. Thankfully, there is a standard AFD option available for this, so I was able to successfully compile everything up to that point.

This may have just been a temporary glitch, or there may be a problem with this particular GP texture in ADE. Whatever the case, I will be more careful in the future!

Agree.  It would be nice to have a texture repository.  I've made some and downloaded some but I don't consider myself an expert.  Feel free to ask if there's any texture you're considering.  I don't mind sharing.  I have also learned the hard way to keep compiling after making small changes.  I've have had to backtrack through many  changes before finding the source of compile errors.  In my case the majority of the times are ground polygon issues.

The main texture that I am looking for is illustrated below, but it would also be nice to have stuff like "RUNWAY AHEAD" with a red background. However, I have not experimented with the latter yet, so I may be able to do it myself....

It's not too difficult to make your own textures. What's supplied with ADE is whatever freeware the creators threw in as a functionality demo. Somewhere on FSDeveloper is the ADE GP Editor manual which explains it all. You need an image creator of your choice (I use MS Paint), DXTBMP to copy your new ground texture into the unique bmp format FSX/P3D used, add that to the relevant folder and a regular bmp to the 'display in editor' folder (which is called something else!) and then you need to define it in the ADE GP editor itself by assigning a default size for it to be displayed at..

NB some of the included textures don't have definitions, so there are items bundled with the product that won't display in-sim.

There is an ICAO ground markings font on FSDeveloper but it's (deliberately?) wrong so you need to stretch your groundpoly images vertically for it to look right.

It would be even easier if there were a central database of textures that have already been created. I can actually see how I could create those red "RUNWAY AHEAD" and runway designation number signs that can be seen at most airports, but it seems to be a lot more work than it really should be........which is where my "why do we have to reinvent the wheel" comment enters stage left with bright flashing neon signs all over it.

@Christopher Low those shoulder markings are in the textures I mentioned.  Understand you're not seeing them in your installation.  Since replacing the textures didn't work, suggest uninstalling ADE, removing all the folders, and reinstalling.  I'm using ADE 1.78.  Yes, agree it would be great to have a readily available repository of textures for anybody to use.  Alas, there isn't one.  To create a texture, like RUNWAY AHEAD, isn't too complicated, just cumbersome.  Once you get used to the steps, it isn't that bad.  The process is just like @lambourne outlined.  If you like a RUNWAY AHEAD one, I can create it for you.  Just tell me the dimensions.

I have also noticed that the "taxiway_marks" set of textures seems to have the "staggered white lines" included, but there is no option for it when selecting this texture set in the ADE GP Editor...
