A320 Cadet Training: Touch & Go Question

Hi guys,

so I try to replicate the touch & go procedures (at LIEO in my case) but here it always wants to follow a missed approach track when I take off again. It’s not doing that hold track thing but going directly into NAV mode and flies the missed approach. What am I doing wrong?

Regards

Stu

Hi Stu

You may wish to get some clarification on this from the FSL forum but I just asked James this question and it seems that they changed the go around logic to reflect newer A320s that automatically go into NAV. Just pull the heading knob to put it back into HDG.

I wasn’t aware of this so we’ll place a NOTAM on the download area.

Cheers

Ben

Ah, I see, thanks for letting me know. I will go to HDG manually then.

Yeah, of course  FSL is also trying to improve and update their product, with all the different real life (software)versions I guess it’s almost impossible to cover every functionality for every version/carrier/build.

Cheers

When I set up the approach page in the MCDU after doing take off page, it won't accept the wind.   QNH and temperature go in fine, but not wind.

This has been addressed in the FSLabs forum before. Apparently there are different logics behind this, the FSLabs will accept those entries only after passing 700ft AGL. But the devs said they would look into it to check what is current standard because some pilots stated that this is not correct...

So apparently it's a bug.  In the tutorial, however, they are able to put the wind in on the ground.  Could they be using an older version of the A320?

Yes, that might be the case here as well, as Ben stated above.

This implies that they recorded the videos with an older build.

We filmed this in May 2019, so this was IIRC in P3D V4.5. They released HF1 during the week of filming but we couldn’t update it as it broke the Airbus. Some of the later videos (the FMA vid, the upcoming winter ops vid etc) are shot in V5.

The approach data stayed in the MCDU during the second touch and go but I can’t exactly remember what the story was. I’m now 20 hours of videos beyond that one 🤪

The bug that prevents wind data being entered on the ground was  introduced in one of the v5 versions of the bus.  It is supposed to be fixed in the next update, whenever that may be (Sharklets?). The data can be entered above 700 AGL so it can be done after takeoff.

Videos are great as usual!  Kudos to all!!

@disco79stu When do you enter the wind numbers?

Usually when I prepare the approach, on touch/go circuits some time on the downwind leg before I activate the approach phase.
