KL C172 (g1000) Hyperspeed/Hyperaltitude Mod

Featured Replies

After seeing the recent discussion about supersonic aircraft I decided to tidy up and package my experimental hyperspeed/hyperaltitude mod for the C172 (g1000).

It allows the C172 to acheive the maximum speed (2700 KTAS) and altitude (275,000 feet) in the sim while remaining as smooth and controllable as possible over a wide range of conditions.  The main limitation at this point is that high speed turns are VERY slow. For anything other than a minor course correction you will want to extend flaps to 10 and slow to 700 knots or below where maneuverability is good. Autopilot works surprisingly well up to about 1800 KTAS.  Beyond that there are oscillations that are beyond my ability to fix.   This is obviously a cartoonish performance mod but is surprisingly usable and fun to fly.

Aside from the unexpected lift and attitude control at 275,000 feet it is really neat to see how the planet and sunlight is modeled up there.  It really does feel like you are in space especially if you are on the terminator where it is dark below but blinding white sunlight on your C172!   It's also fun to blast right over terrain at 1800 knots (the speed limit for this mod at sea level) or fly from LAX to SFO in just a few minutes. The sim max of 2700 KTAS is achievable at higher altitudes (~25,000 feet).

See the README for important operating notes before you try to fly it.

Note: This mod requires the Modern flight model and crashes must be disabled (enabling developer mode in general settings disables crash detection by default)

Neat, but I would prefer to save that kind of experience for when we eventually have a vehicle in the sim which is appropriate for that experience.

My as well make NCC-1701/7 with warp speed capabilities 🙂
