December 10, 200619 yr First of all very many thanks to all the contributors of the many FSX tweaks.I received my copy of FSX Deluxe on the UK release date and of course my initial reaction to the sim was dissappointment. I have been flight simming since FS98 so I am very conversant with the multitude of keystokes within the sim, and general usage navigation etc. With the help of this forum I can now run FSX with respectable performance. 20-25FPS in most situations apart from highly detailed cities like New York where my FPS are 10-15.I have added a further Gb of RAM to my system which has improved the general smoothness of the sim. (now have 2Gb)The only tweak I am now using (I have tried most of them)is the Matt Fox reduced types of trees. My main sliders are as followsGlobal texture resolution Very HighFiltering AnisotropicTarget frame rate 25Aircraft medium high Level of detail radius High anything lower produces some fuzzinessMesh Complexity 100Mesh Resolution 1m Lower again reduces clarity of groundTexture Resolution 7cmWater Effects Low 2xScenery Complexity Very DenseAutogen Density NormalSpecial Effects MediumNo Traffic apart from 5% Ships Ferries etcGraphics Card 4XAA 8XAFHaving tested FSX exstensivly over the past few weeks here are my observations. Some animations have been lost since FS9 revolving radar at airportsFar too many poplar trees in the UKCan't set autobrake in Airbus A321Rear wheels immediately lock up on applying the brakes, very expensive on tyres for the airlines!Scenery problems, main one being land across rivers now fixed thanks again to Avsim forum. Bridges sinking into river, Humber Bridge after fix.Scenery appears to shimmer more in FSX than FS9 particularly the large ships in various docks.I have probably forgotten some others. Will post again after more testing.I have found that setting a target frame rate of 25 makes the sim run smoother, reduces microstutters etc.I do think that it does have good potential but I do also think there are some glaring issues with this version that need to be addressed.I have quite a lot of add ons running with FS9 and so will continue to use this version quite extensivly. My System:AMD 4400ATI 850XT PE 256mb 6.9 Catalyst drivers2Gb Ram.
December 10, 200619 yr "Can't set autobrake in Airbus A321"There is, as far as I know, no autobrake gauge in the A321. It's only a picture of it in the panel.BTW: Welcome in this forum!Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg
December 10, 200619 yr >Mesh Resolution 1m Lower again reduces clarity of groundWell that's really weird since the highest mesh resolution in stock FSX is 38m. :)>Texture Resolution 7cmAs above, max texture resolution in stock FSX is 1m.Marco "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
December 10, 200619 yr Sorry you are getting mixed up with MESH RESOLUTION.MAXIMUM MESH RESOLUTION IS 1mMAXIMUM TEXTURE RESOLUTION IS 7cmWhat I mean about clarity is if you move the slider further to the right the ground looks considerably less fuzziOne more scenery gripeTerrible buildings around cities in UK
December 10, 200619 yr >Sorry you are getting mixed up with MESH RESOLUTION.>>MAXIMUM MESH RESOLUTION IS 1m>>MAXIMUM TEXTURE RESOLUTION IS 7cmHi Gibbs, even if the sliders for mesh and texture resolution go up to 1m and 7cm respectively, the stock (default) FSX scenery mesh and textures only have a resolution of 38m and 1m. So if you set sliders higher than that, nothing changes actually. The higher values are only there for future add-on scenery.Marco "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

In fact it might hurt performance if anything. You should set it to 38m unless you get add-on mesh that is higher res. Also, setting max texture res to 7cm does nothing, and may in fact hurt performance. You should set this to 1m as that is the highest res ground texture in the sim.About The shimmer effect you mentioned...I had it (emphasize HAD) when I was using 4x AA and 8x AF. But once I moved to 8xAA and 16xAF, it was gone. You have an ATI card so I'm not sure if that will cure it for you or not. For me, I have no shimmers now.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
December 10, 200619 yr Hello againI have done some more testing and I'm sure that the ground textures look better with Mesh Resolution set further to the right than 38mand also Texture Resolution further to the right than 1m respectively. It seems from a mixture of observations that FSX runs completely differently on similar spec machines. I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one but I feel I can definately see an improvement when flying over open farmland in the UK and over car parks etc. I will continue to do comparisons and report back.I do remember however reading somewhere that the higher settings are for add on scenery. I am using the default scenery.I have no frame rate hit by using the higher settings although loading times are slightly longer. With regard to the graphics card settings ATI cards use a maximum AA setting of 6x but I will give it a go thanks.Another animation gripe. Why in FS9 did the wheels continue to revolve nicely after take off and gently come to a stop and in FSX they stop dead immediately after you leave the ground. All good fun anyway
December 11, 200619 yr Author You can set autobrake on the Airbus in FSX, you just have to bind it to keys on the keyboard, it does work but sadly the lights on the panel don't display the setting you have it on :( Jay Vorkapic
