February 27, 20215 yr First of all, today, I noticed, excitement is now (fast) building for the first regional jet in MSFS, the AS CRJ...Caught Chock's exclamation over there, "...hey Aerosoft, just release the bloody thing already. 🤣..."....I guess, that sums it up well...🙂...!! Anyway, great news for MSFS...! I read up a bit about the SIM..., it appears, the variants will include 550/700/900/1000 (I didn't even know about the 550, a rebranded (and reconfigured) version of the CRJ-700, I understand). I know, many of us (me included), own/ed the (excellent) AS CRJ in FSX/P3D. My FSX/SE AS-CRJ (700/900 models) has been a great favorite of mine, and I'd even made a couple of posts on it, a while ago. I'd e.g. really liked its HUD capability. The CRJ, for folks without sufficient time for long-haul airliner flights, would be a perfect fit (and will be a great deal of fun), I'm quite sure. Anyway, this post is not about my (FSX/P3D) AS CRJ, though I might, now, take it out for a stint, on my own. I've travelled in CRJs several times, though not recently. And, interestingly, I forget where, but, I had also travelled once in a CRJ-100 (the shortest (original) 50-seater variant, that had started it all). I recall the flight was a very short hop, and the tiny jet climbed up very fast, and before it even got to any kind of level flight, it had started its descent to the destination airport...! And, yes, I do recall the claustrophobic feeling (how about "2 and 1" configuration split per each row, so I was on a seat by myself, with no one on either side of me...and I remind you, that was a "twinjet"...not not a "prop"...!). It was, let's say, an interesting (jetliner) experience...compared to e.g. that of being on a B777....🙂.... The longest CRJ variant (1000) has always fascinated me. Visually, it's one thin and long plane...(10 feet longer than 900)...! In 2007/2008, the CRJ700/900/1000 were upgraded to their NextGen versions, which featured improved economics and a revised cabin. The GE CF34 engine that powers the CRJ1000 NextGen aircraft engine is the newest CF34-8 variant. The CRJ series has been very popular. However, in the the news, on 1 June 2020, the CRJ programme was acquired by the Japanese corporation Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, while Bombardier took a strategic decision to focus only on its business jet lines, with its (profitable) models currently in production including the Challenger, Learjet and Global series, thereby ending its illustrious (jet) tradition that had started with the CRJ-100. A point of distinction, here, worth noting, is that the Bombardier CRJ Series (100) had outpaced its nearest competitor, the Embraer ERJ Series (135), by nearly 5 years, in terms of introduction in service...(truly a modern trail-blazer in this niche market of aviation)...! For this post, I am combining my Orbx Queenstown (NZQN), an airport scenery, I realized, I've never explored, so far, (I'd visited NZCH/NZWN, in my previous B737NG post), with a long forgotten Wilco CRJ-1000NG SIM (the only payware CRJ-1000 version, in my hangar, which is listed as the NG (=NextGen) variant). And, the town of Queenstown is situated on the shore of Lake Wakatipu, the third largest lake by surface area in New Zealand. Around Queenstown, one of the first things you'll notice are the dramatic mountains rising sharply from Lake Wakatipu. I've included several screenshots, below, to illustrate these breathtaking features of the town. So, i hope you enjoy this set of pictures of the Iberia (Air Nostrum) CRJ-1000NG, the 100-seater (largest) member of Bombardier's CRJ family NextGen aircraft, lifting off this beautiful locale (especially if you are not a local yourself, and get to rely on another non-local as your free tour guide...🙂...), from Rwy 23 (i.e. into the Lake side, see e.g. one top-down view and Rwy (05) marker shot) of Queenstown (NZQN) airport. Thanks for viewing...!! Good day/evening...!! [Orbx(NZQN), Wilco(CRJ1000NG), REX]
