December 18, 200619 yr Something that might be of interest to others is as follows:Capt. Sim just had a dandy 24 hour Christmas sale of their products. It may or may not have been extended, I did not check. I purchased the Base Package of the 757 and the Pro C130.In reading the manual for the 757, if I am interpreting correctly the FMC does not control the autopilot, therefore making it virtually useless in my book which is a big disapointment. Also, if I interpret correctly there are purchase options in addition to the base package that have this provision probably along with other desirable functions. I would respectfully suggest that one research all purchase options as carefully as possible before making your selection (Probably good for all sources, not just Capt. Sim).I don't know whether there is a way to download the manual before a purchase, but it might be advisable if it is available, although it would entail a dandy bit of reading.I am also having distortion and multiple panel bleedthrough display problems with both the 757 (FS9 and FSX) and the C130 which may well be no fault of Capt. Sim's planes at all. I never saw this with the old 727 at all. Looks like high temp on the GPU, but it is running in the mid-high 40's C. However, I see no sign of this problem with any other panel in either FS9 or FSX. If anyone has any input regarding a solution I sure would appreciate the help.Respectfully:RTH
December 18, 200619 yr Thanks for the tip. I've been looking at buying this one for a while. I agree that it is definately not very clear that FMC isn't included with the base package. Looks like it's included with the "Advanced Systems Package", which isn't ready yet, and you wouldn't know without having to do some digging. I'd be upset too since it almost seems like they are purposely hiding the fact that there is no FMC.I'd send them a nasty email and demand my money back. This is why I always try to check forums on a product before buying.Matt
December 18, 200619 yr Welcome to the Dissatisfied Club of Angry Captain Sim Products Owners... or better known as DCoACSPO.Heh..At any rate. I doubt you would be able to find any of this on their forum anyhow. They hid their forum quite a while ago, then they started deleting anything negative about their products.I now avoid them like the plague.
December 18, 200619 yr Author Thanks for the replies Matt and Valkarie:I do not really mean to start a post which flames the source here, so let's not start something that will be unacceptable on this site. I never was as displeased with the old 727 by C.S. as some seemed to be. For the money, and at that time I thought it was acceptable. This is the first time I have bought anything else from that source and I am afraid first impressions are not too healthy. I would hesitate to make any recommendations. At least one of them appears to be cheap as well as inexpensive, but I guess I got what I paid for.I am severely disappointed in the 757, although many have praised it.It is not that there is no CDU/FMC in the 757 Base Package. It just appears if I am interpreting the manual correctly, it is very limited and only displays information. There is little to no "Flight Management" as near as I can tell. I am also finding that airports I desire are not in the database for the FMC, and instruction is lacking as well (i.e. a tutorial). Of course if it is there just for looks, all of this is somewhet academic. The reply to questions sent to their site simply said these questions had already been answered, look on their support link. I sure can't find the topic there. In their favor, I did read some posts that were not complimentory at all, so it looks like they are being somewhat fair relative to that issue forum wise. The C130 has appeal in spite of the growing pains that seemed to evolve along with it. If I can find a solution to the display problems, I think I will enjoy flying it. With that problem it is flyable, the display glitches are just a nusience. Looks like a fun aircraft and well worth the reduced price (assuming display glitches are not included with the package).Being that no one else has mentioned it anywhere that I have noticed thus far, we might hope that the display problems I am experiencing with both planes are unique to my system for some reason. Possibly a few video card tweaks might be a cure. Any ideas would be appreciated.Respectfully:RTH
December 18, 200619 yr I'm not trying to flame either. I've never purchased a product from Captain Sim. I just think their website is not very clear as to whether you get a FMC with the base package or not. I'm still not sure.Matt
December 18, 200619 yr I've purchased four planes from CS and all is well. I enjoy them very much. Never a problem. But I told a flightsim buddy about their sale and he bought the C-130 and two C-130 expansions, and he's having trouble getting the VC textures to work. He's trying to get tech help. We'll see how it goes.If he is not well treated, I will have to reconsider my positive CS views. Until then, I remain a satisfied CS customer. ___________________________I'm just flying for the fun of it.
December 19, 200619 yr Author Hello Matt:Couldn't agree more. Obviously you were cautious and a bit more careful before you pulled the plastic out. Wish I had been. Only ten bucks, but....Oh Well.I got a decisive reply to my questions concerning this issue on the CS forum which stated: "The FMC isn't functional yet. We have to wait to see if block F ever gets released For FS9/X." Probably my fault. In my haste I missed whereever the site said that. Not very encouraging, and I fear that "if block F ever gets released" the bargin price will be negated if one wants total performance. I haven't even figured out how to get the AP to follow the GPS yet, so back to the old days of simply navigating by VOR's and ADF's I guess (assuming that works).Think I will just chalk this purchase up to a bad buy thanks to my haste and ignorance and put this bird away. I had high hopes that this might be the first complex addon for FSX at a really good price, but unfortunately all it does is eat up frame rates. The 130 Hercules is growing on my though. There are a lot of neat features. I have come to the conclusion that I just need to be sure the Mouse arrow is in a remote position somewhere in order to avoid the strange display happenings. So far, I feel that this is a good buy particularly at the bargin price they offered.Happy flying and thanks for the comments.RTH
