Association between FPS and aircraft max speed?

Anyone notice an association between FPS and max aircraft speed attained?  If I limit my FPS to 100 I can attain a max aircraft speed of say 150 kts.  If I limit my FPS to 25 the max attainable speed is 85 kts.  I have done this to evaluate FPS within VR and the results are repeatable, at least on my system.

I have never seen this behavior before.  Anyone offer any insight?
