Bonanza A36 GNS 430 530

Featured Replies

Hi everybody !

I bought an old used A36 Bonanza from F1 Software, to try the included Reality XP GNS.

Unfortunately, the installer displays the message "Windows Exoplorer setting may affect the GNS simulator". Actually, the GNS won't work at all nor show as a pop-up.

I am at a loss to understand what the above message means, and how, if ever, I could fix this issue.

My computer is Windows 10 run, and my favourite explorer is Chrome. Maybe Chrome is in some way involved...

Thank you !

Alain

I believe you are confusing the former Microsoft Internet Explorer, which was an internet browser, with the Windows filer management application, which is called Windows Explorer.  Those are two very different and serve totally different functions.   The former Microsoft Browser, called Explorer in it's day, has been replaced with a new browser, Microsoft Edge.

Windows Explorer is what most use to manage folders and files in Windows.  Like below:

Wow this is a very old and unsupported product! I couldn't even find any particular information about this installer message.

The only thing I can refer to is in the GNS Legacy User's Manual, Release Notes & Troubleshooting chapter, where there is some related information:

Quote

If you have an AMD CPU: Windows 7

When using an AMD CPU with Windows 7, you might need to add "explorer.exe" to the DEP exclusion list. (see "the Windows Vista/Win7: Data Execution Prevention (DEP)" note above in order to configure DEP).

Thank you. I own up I like archeological airsim of sort, but it's very exciting making some old products run again. The installer works, actually, except this enigmatic message about Windows explorer settings, I don't understand at all, and the GNS not working, as predicted by this message..,Indeeed I made some confusion in my former request between windows explorer and internet browser. Anyway, i wonder what may be those windows explorer settings...or how I could modify them, if needed so.

This is an old product with an old trainer and and old code!

Is what I've posted above helping solving the problem in the end?

If not, you might want to locate the aforementioned pdf manual and read the other troubleshooting items, there are more than just this one.

I am sorry, but I could not solve the problem. I feel it has something to do with 16 bits and 32 bits windows settings.  I had hoped some member of RXP could help, but it seems this product is way too old. Never mind. One cannot always succeed in this ever changing world of informatics.

Thank you !
