FSX,cfg file and Gauges

Featured Replies

In the FSX.CFG file under the heading TRUSTED there are a lot of lines to do with gauges in various aircraft. The number of lines continually grow. Should these be there? If so what are they doing?I notice that FSX is taking longer and longer to load. Could these lines be the cause? They weren't there in FS9.cfxThanks for any help.TedL

Yes they should, they are preventing you from having to acknowledge each and every gauge each and every time you start the sim. They do not affect the loading times of the sim.Allcott

Thanks Allcot. That does put my mind at rest somewhat. TedL

Defrag - defrag - defrag.FSX seems to really require frequent defrags if lots of add-ons or changes have been made. It was sure a necessity right after the initial installation of FSX.Try a nice product, "Disktrix" from PCAviator/Computer Pilot.

>Thanks Allcot. That does put my mind at rest somewhat. >>TedL I periodically remove those lines from the CFG file since many are redundant. Every time I update FSUIPC4 FSX adds another line pointing to the new version, which of course has the very same name and location as the previous version. The thing is, it doesn't remove those references to the old, now overwritten versions! Also, I may inport an aircraft from FS9 and subsequently determine I want to remove it from FSX. Any gauge references belonging to that removed aircraft will remain, thus contributing to the bloat of an already bloated product. Once I've clearded those "trusted gauges" lines, FSX will add those required the next time I start the sim or fly an aircraft with as yet "untrusted" gauges. Of course I have to click twice to acknowledge them and add them but it's a small price to pay to keep the CFG file from growing to an unmanageable size. ##### were the Aces developers thinking when they choose to put the "trusted gauge" stuff in that file. They should have used a seperate file, IMO. Paul

Yes, I agree.. A peculiar place to store this kind of info. And then I don't even dare to comment how I feel about this "trusting" business in the first place :-(But the good news is: although the fsx.cfg looks horrible with all those definitions, it doesn't seem to affect loading performance at all. That is: I timed my FSX load times with/without 500 lines of "garbage" trust definitions, but there was no measurable difference at all.RobPS: I fail to see any relevance to "defrag" my harddisk w.r.t. this "trusting" issue, but maybe I miss the point of this advice.
