Hello guys,

I checked my current wind data in the sim and compare it to real world data.

In real word I got following data on FL380:

346/43

In sim I got:

033/54

in the same position and same FL

My setting are in Live mode etc. Why does AS get so diffrerent values?

There is no such thing as “real world data” when it comes to upper level winds. Upper winds are only directly measured every 12 hours, at 0000Z and 1200Z. Those observations are fed into a computer model, which then predicts the winds for the next 11 hours - so no matter what aviation source you get upper wind data from, you are looking at a computer prediction, not actual observations.

There are several different models that can be used to generate upper wind predictions for aviation use. Active Sky (I believe), uses the U.S. GFS model. There is also a European model called the ECMWF, as well as a Canadian model. The one used depends on the source you get the wind data from.

There can be differences from one model to another - especially at a point where a fast-moving upper level disturbance is traveling through the jet stream.

So, my question is: what was the source of the wind data you were using to compare with AS? And what was the location? I have an app that will show the GFS prediction for any location and altitude.

It is possible that the AS data was outdated, but it is equally possible that the disparity was due to a “difference of opinion” between two different computer models.

I used windy.com and compared it to a flight on flightradar. Flightradar and "windy's" data was equal.

I checked the data above MHN VOR (Menorca)

I can also report that since yesterday the winds aloft are completely wrong when comparing it to what Simbrief/PFPX predicts and the real world wind charts. I know they are not supposed to match exactly, but when taking a look at the wind charts, I can affirm that ASN is not injecting the correct winds OR both Simbrief/PFPX are wrong.

I flew AMS-TFS yesterday and I am flying TFS-AMS now, and where the winds are supposed to be at around 100kts, they are only at 9, 10 kts at FL360 .

thanks

Eduardo

Hello,

The winds aloft discrepancy has been resolved this morning after some server adjustments and updates for the new data format.
