ORBx Dundee in P3Dv4

Featured Replies

I have made quite a few flights from Aberdeen to Glasgow recently (in the PMDG 737NGX and 777F), and I have noticed a rather significant stutter at a location maybe halfway between Aberdeen and the PTH VOR (Perth) waypoint. In fact, this was so bad during a flight in the PMDG 777F (at 6000 feet) yesterday, that the stutter became a frozen screen (for maybe 15 seconds), then the sound vanished, and then I actually suffered a CTD! I did not remember experiencing such a bad stutter in the past, so I wondered whether it had anything to do with ORBx Dundee.

At first, I considered whether it was because of the dynamic lighting at the airport (which seems to hit performance to a reasonable extent even though Dundee is a very small airport). I switched dynamic lighting off, and tested the same flight again. There was an improvement (at least it did not CTD), but the stutter was still pretty significant. Then I decided to disable ORBx Dundee for another test. I have just completed that test, and even though there was a bit of a stutter, it was also a considerable improvement.

Now, stutters are not rare on my PC in P3D. They occur at various locations around the UK, and I suspect that they have a lot to do with my AI planes. However, where these stutters occur is a bit of a puzzle. Flying over the remote Scottish Highlands between Aberdeen and Perth is not somewhere that I would consider to be "performance intensive", particularly when compared to many areas in England that have a lot of dense autogen, and plenty of airports in close proximity.

I have no idea whether this indicates a problem with ORBx Dundee when it is being loaded as I approach the area, or whether something else is happening. To be honest, I am just wanting to know if anyone else has experienced significant stutter problems when approaching ORBx Dundee from outside the area? For the record, I am running P3Dv4.5 HF2 @ 1920x1080 resolution on an Intel i5 7600k CPU @ 4.5Ghz/32GB DDR4-3600 RAM/6GB GeForce GTX 980Ti powered system, with ORBx TrueEarth GB, and all UK2000 Xtreme/VFR Airfields packages installed. Framerates are very good across the board. The only problem that I have is those stutters in various areas.

not in that area, but it sounds quite familiar, just at a different location as described here :

Even if no Addon Airport in the vicinity at all. So far  I have disabled all ORBX stuff but that doesn't help. After the crash, if you look at the last entry in dxdiag.txt (located in the Lockheed Martin folder in APPDATA/Roaming), or in the Windows Event Viewer, you can see the module which crashes. I bet It's terrain.dll as well.

I'm afraid there is not much we can do about it.

Difficult to interpret what is written in dxdiag.txt, but g3d.dll is mentioned.

unfortunately that is not very useful, because it can mean anything, from a scenery Addon problem to a problem with the 777. Did you try the same route with a non PMDG plane ?
