VEHICLE SELECTION DISPLAY ISSUE

Featured Replies

Greetings all,

I have posted this problem to the P3D forum, with no l response. So, I would like to tap into the expertise here.

Basically, when I want to select a plane, instead of  seeing any aircraft in the selection box, instead I get a view of whatever I may be looking at in the sim when making my choice. This picture explains it all

I have replaced content without any success...short of reinstalling P3D, what might cure this problem? Thanks.

The preview window is a DirectX surface, in this case a DX12 surface, and any transforms, filters etc applied to the DX pipeline will show up there. For example, when I have my warping software turned on for my curved screen, the preview window image is distorted because the whole DX screen buffer gets the warp applied by a filter at the end of the pipeline.

In this case you're getting a portion of the main screen buffer copied into that window. I note that the P3D menu is open in the preview, but not on the actual screen - is the preview 'live'? As in, did you click on the menu in the preview window and it dropped down? Or is the image static from the time the dialog opens?

The culprit will be something that fiddles with the DirectX pipeline. Could be your drivers, could be a setting, could be another installed app. Unfortunately you're going to need to go through the usual debugging steps. Disable all add-ons, delete your Prepar3d.cfg, see if that helps; if not, update (or maybe downgrade) your display drivers; if that doesn't work, go through your installed apps and see what you have that might interact with the display drivers. You might need to start uninstalling things. Eventually things will go back to normal and you can start gradually re-installed / enabling things until it breaks again; then you'll know what the cause is.

Maybe someone else on here has seen this effect before and has more useful suggestions, otherwise, given a problem without an obvious cause the only way I ever solve it is by trial and error.

I have had the same problem some weeks ago. I am not sure that I have a solution, but in N vidia control panel, check if you have Multi Frame Sampled AA checked. If so, uncheck it.  I had it checked, and when I unchecked it, the aircraft preview came back. I like to think it was the solution, but if it is not for you, then I don’t know.

thanks to both Neil and Arild for helping me. Arild pointed me to a change in Nvidia Control Panel...that solved the problem. Also, a big thank you to Neil for his extensive explanation, way above my technical knowledge pay grade, but greatly appreciated for his insight.

All is well with the  vehicle image again.
