Looking For Outer, Middle, and Inner Markers

Featured Replies

I have been doing a lot of flights in the new CRJ and definitely see the OM/MM appear on the PFD whenever overflying the markers in the scenery. It appears almost every ILS approach in the MSFS world still has markers, even though most of the r/w equivalents no longer do. I have not listened for the audio tones, but will do so on my text flight by configuring the audio panel.

On an ILS approach, has anyone been able to identify any of the marker beacons, as they fly down the localizer?  I believe I heard the OM at KLAX, runway 06L once or twice (- -).  Or, maybe it was wishful thinking...

And, have you flown any planes whose PFDs showed the marker lights flash, as you passed over them?

MSFS says,  "Ctrl-3"   toggles the markers on and off, but I haven't been able to get it to work for me.  Has anyone else?  And, is there another way to get them to be seen and heard?

I read elsewhere that markers were de-activated at many US airports in 2015, but I'm hoping it isn't true.

-- If you've received marker's aural signal (- -), (. -), (. . .), please tell me how and at which airports; and on which runways.  Also,  if you've seen the marker lights appear on any plane's PFD.

If an airport has markers on their ILS approaches, I'm surprised our planes don't show them on their PFDs as we pass over them. Just as they did in FSX and before...

If you want to test them. I found an airport today with both outer and middle...

ILS23 approach to Boscombe Down in the UK  ICAO  EGDM.    If you set off from Bristol EGGD and do a low altitude ILS run to Boscombe arriving on 23 you should get both appearing.

Thank you Graham--I've been making ILS 23 approaches to EGDM this afternoon and after dinner (I'm on the west coast of California--near KVNY).  I hate to admit I did not hear any beacons.  I flew several 787's (my regular transportation), and 4 or 5 assorted A320s, from the MSFS default through various livery aircraft. I could not raise a sound... I also went into the Options/Keyboard section and assigned the "j" to "Set the Marker:" to  no avail...

I'm a bit disappointed, but still energetic to hear those beacons...

I've made many sound and other adjustments, looking for the one that produces the top beacon tone...I'll find it...Thanks for taking the time to help me.  It does seem a little silly, I guess...Anyway, it's getting late out hear, so I better turn-in for the day...Take care...

Really not sure what to say...

Can I make a suggestion..  try the flight from EGGD to EGDM in a Cessna 172(1000). (About 15 - 20 mins)  That was what I was flying yesterday...   same thing ILS23 planned in the Flight Sim itself.. not in any external planner  and watch it from there...

At least that will show that you are  (or are not) getting the Outer and Middle.   As I recall..  Outer had a morse code on it and a light.. but middle had light but didn't have a code sound (but I may have missed it because middle is pretty close to touchdown at that airport and I was about to land)  Outer is about 5 miles out from the runway just by the last waypoint on the plan.

If so, then there is an issue with either the airliners or you're just not getting the beeps and the marker lights.

That may help narrow it down some.
