May 21, 20215 yr So I'm experimenting with the VFR flight plans and ATC. Doing a short hop from KCKV to KBNA, a distance of about 40+miles. I create and file my flight plan, and before taking off, I open my flight plan with Memphis Center. So far so good. About 20 miles from KBNA, I contact approach on 119.35 with my request/intention to land on Runway 20L. ATC responds by acknowledging/granting my request, but for a runway at a nearby airport instead. I notice when tuned into 119.35, it's not labeled as "KBNA's approach", but instead it's labeled as the other airport's approach frequency. However, 119.35 is the correct approach frequency for KBNA. I created, filed, and opened my flight plan to KBNA, so shouldn't the program understand my intention is for KBNA and not these other airports that "share" KBNA's frequency? What step am I missing here?
May 21, 20215 yr Author Just realized what I may be doing wrong...one of the options when contacting KBNA is to request transit of Bravo airspace. I'm thinking I may need to do this first? Will try again tomorrow.
May 21, 20215 yr Commercial Member Bravo airspace is not the problem. On a VFR flight, you can contact Approach and make the request you made, but you have to specify the airport as Kilo Bravo November Alpha. Or, if you're just wanting to enter the VFR pattern, call the Tower directly and it will be associated with the specific airport. Dave
May 21, 20215 yr Author Ah, ok, thanks Dave. I'll try it again specifying the airport. Much appreciated.
