getting to grips with tubes

Featured Replies

Well, courtesy of an incredibly generously put together guide fron @Chock, I am now beginning to understand how to do the basics of getting a flight plan into the onboard FMC in a tube, and do the necessary to get off the ground and then transit into AP control. Still having issues coming out of AP and descending correctly at the destination but hey, at least I'm beginning to get an idea of what's involved. Can't see it'll ever be my preferred mode of transport in the sim but the bits at either end are becoming more fun than I expected. But as for doing long haul in real time  .  .  . I don't think so!

Just set up a trip out of KBOS to KPHL, initially with the CS777 (yeah yeah, I know, but I like it) but after about 20 minutes my frame rates had dropped to low single figures so I canned it and tried again with the 737 (and again) but it was just as bad. Don't know if this was all down to that area in the sim or just it being a bit of heavy demand on the servers - I was seeing the little circle a fair bit of the time.

Anyhoo - here's just out of KBOS in the 777

And again in the 737

As it was running like a one legged dog with a limp I used the "travel to descent" to see if this one was going to be automatic, but it wasn't and I came back in to the sim way too close and high still, so this is me overshooting at KPHL.

I was going to turn round and try again but I lost the will to struggle with the sim at that point.

This really is a great way to have fun. The variety is, I realise, no different to what it always has been in previous sims, but being able to hover around in the H135 or Bell, freak out in the Pitts or potter around in the various forms of the X-Cub, jump in to the Spitfire and zoom around all over the place, and now play with all that airliner stuff (especially with things like toolbar pushback), and all in the stunning visual environment of MSFS - well, it's just what my inner child needed!

Happy flying, folks!

Well...Andy...certainly a worthy effort in MSFS, eventhough you have started with the 777...🙂...(and, what I understand flying Airliners in MSFS is anyways bit of a challenge)...
