P3d v5.2 Performance

Featured Replies

After updating Client, Content, and Scenery my frame rates have plummeted, and I mean bad. I have a very good system and never had this happen before today, and I am wondering if there is something I may be missing. At FT EHAM, around 10 FPS and dropping to 7 and 8 sometimes, same at FT EKCH. I am at a loss here.

Cheers, Pete

Hi Pete,

EA on or off?

Clouds layers?

Cloud resolution setting?

Cloud resolution setting will have a very significant impact on performance and the more cloud layers you have the worse it will be.

Cheers, Rob.

EA off, and I used my saved settings from before. In fact, the performance at ORD was under 2 FPS. I can barely even do anything. Something is seriously wrong.

Not sure if this means anything, but the former red “shift + Z bar is now white. The sim is unflyable. Not sure what I possibly could have done.

Delete your cfg file and let it rebuild upon starting sim

I tried that already but no luck. This is crazy, I never had performance issues until now and I don’t know exactly how to resolve. I may roll back to the previous version and see what happens.

I'm seeing the same thing. Deleting my CFG fixed it until I restarted with my preferred GFX settings. Now I'm getting less than 1 FPS.

I did delete shaders. I have certain configurations saved that can load into P3d. Anyway, I adjusted the settings back to what I used before and the sim is like a slide show. I tried the default settings as well.

That's by design ... LM moved to HTML5.

Did you perform a "client" only update?

Cheers, Rob.

At first I did client only, then I added content and scenery update.

Just to confirm, did you delete your P3D.cfg, let it rebuild, tried flying with the new p3d.cgf, WITHOUT changing any settings, and noting whether performance is back to normal? Once you do this, then you can start messing about with settings to suit your needs. But just confirm that things work as normal with default settings as set by P3D. For good measure, delete the shaders as well as you delete your P3D.cfg, just to make sure everything is back to default.

As an aside, you may want to have a look at your graphics driver. The one time I had a sudden issue like this si when, for whatever reason, Windows had decided to revert the Nvidia driver and I was using Intel's integrated graphics 🙄

I did those things yes. How would I check that my Nvidia driver is not being used?

In the graphics tab of the settings within P3D it should tell you the driver it is using. It's in the same place where you select screen resolution etc... Sorry I can't be more specific, I haven't had the opportunity to actually install 5.2 and confirm it all looks the same as in 5.1...

If all this checks out, personally I'd probably just go ahead and do a full, clean re-install... it's a hassle for sure but it always fixed stuff for me. I would leave scenery installed using the AddOn method where they are, though aircraft such as the PMDGs will need to be re-installed seeing as how they install straight into the Sim directory. The likes of Aerosoft's CRJ and Airbusses, as well as FSLabs (though this one isn't compatible with 5.2 yet anyway), can probably remain installed as well as they also use the AddOn method, for all I know.

Thanks for you help, I may actually do that clean install. It is a PITA but in the end it probably won’t hurt.

Alternatively you can disable all your Add-Ons and see if that makes a difference.

Cheers, Rob.

I will give that a shot too. Thanks for your help.
