June 18, 20214 yr Long time user of this software, love it. However, I still struggle when it comes to changing runways. A lot of times I'll start a flight in the evening and when I get to flight level and everything is smooth, I'll let the autopilot fly the enroute and I'll have the sim pause about 30 or so miles from the TOD. This works perfectly. The issue is when I wake up in the morning the flows changed to the opposite runway. I try to look at the forecasts and file my flighplan to use the forecast winds, but sometimes the forecast is wrong and I end up programmed to use the wrong runway. I would think that I could select "ArrivalRunwayRequest", scroll through the predefined statements and select the new runways, then click the "SayIt" button. The software will make the request, but the controller will always keep telling me the original filed runway. If I'm missing a step here, can someone please help?
June 18, 20214 yr Commercial Member If you know what runway you want after your overnight pause, you could do the following: Disconnect from the SIM Make sure you have "Force Pilot Runway Selection" option checked Modify the Flt Plan to use the desired runway, trying to keep the STAR / Approach the same so you're not off course at your current position Connect to the SIM File the new plan Make the initial call to the controller, like <CallSign> at flight level 340 You should get a new squawk code and all should proceed normally to the new runway. June 18, 20214 yr Author Thanks for that. I wouldn't have thought to go through a disconnect/reconnect and refile. Will the option ArrivalRunwayRequest be implemented. Right now, it does not appear to do anything.
June 18, 20214 yr Commercial Member I will have to test it. It should work, but only if you request a different runway before TOD or the beginning of a STAR. The ideal time would be as soon as you get your Expect xxxx arrival call from ATC. If you don't like the runway, you should then be able to request a different one and get approval or denial of the request. Dave
June 18, 20214 yr Author Thanks Dave. For your testing data, the request prior to TOD doesn't yield expected changing of runways either. Great software though. Scott
