July 12, 20214 yr Todays Flight departs from the Black Sea resort of Sochi (URSS) in Russia. From here we fly east heading into Georgia and up into the Caucasian mountains. After a climb up and over the lower foothills we descend into the Bzipi river valley at WP1 and follow the river East to our first stop at at a small grass airstrip near the village of Pskhu (UGST). Departing here we follow the Bzipi river to its source and cross over the ridge. Dropping down the other side brings us to the Chkhalta River , a major tributary of the mighty Kodori River. We follow the river, joining the Kodori Valley( Battle of the Kodori Valley is an interesting read) , and continue to our second stop at Tqvarch'Eli (UGTQ). Next an exciting tour close to the base of Mt Elbrus ( the tallest mountain of continental Europe at 18500ft) . There is much ascending on this section , and some pretty spectacular scenery. We wind our way back down the valleys to our third stop at the Queen Tamar Airport (UGMS) just east of the town of Mestia. We depart from here and head south to the foothills city of Ambrolauri and land at our fourth stop Ambrolauri Airport (UGAM). We then climb up and over the width of the Caucasians and drop down back into Russia and the city of Vladikavkaz. We land , our fifth stop, at a small airstrip to the west of the city in Gizel (UGIZ). Leaving Russia, and back into Georgia, we fly south along the Terek River, following the E117 highway ( the famous Georgian Military Road) , to its southern most point . we follow the road up and over the Jvari Pass , passing the Travertine mineral Springs before descending past the Gudauri Ski resort. We follow the Aragvi River all the way south to the Zhinvali Reservoir , and continue on to our penultimate stop at Natakhtari (UGMT) . Our final leg is a short hop to the capital of Georgia, Tblisi , and after a circuit of sightseeing we land at Lochini International (UGTB).
