post SU5/HF 2 graphics question...

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,  I have a very nice monitor for a mid-low PC (I liked the size of the screen).  It is a 30" 4k monitor.  I run 30 FPS cap (uncapped I get 35-45 in dense areas).  Generally happy.

Current display setting: 2560 X 1440  60HZ

Monitor Options:

4K 3840 X 2160 native
4K 2560 X 1600
4K 2040 X 1536

Question, would you change anything here?

CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB
MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro |  GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K

Select the native 4K 3840 x 2160 resolution, and then lower the Render Scale in the MSFS graphics options to approximate the 2560 X 1440 resolution you're using.

Thank you David, two questions:  What would this adjustment generally be expected to do?  Is the Render scale reduction a direct percentage thing? (ie. 2560/3840 = 60 [vs 100 on the Render Scale])

It will give you a crisp 4K resolution on your monitor or TV while not being overly demanding on FPS.

Yes. I run a 4K display with the Render Scale set to 50 percent, which produces a clean 1920 x 1080 output by the sim. The monitor then upscales the display, which, to me, is indistinguishable from a true 4K output. This method produces a HUGE improvement in FPS.

I run a 2K monitor. And use Ultra preset in MSFS. If I was to set render to 100, that would be a 2K resolution image being displayed on a 2K monitor.

But I set render higher from 130 to 200 depending on the scenery density. Those are image resolutions way above 2K but it still looks better on my 2K monitor than 100 looks. So, downscaling 4K images down to 2K looks better on a 2K monitor, than just creating a 2K image to begin with and not having to scale it.
